Stone Memorial Library

CONNEAUTVILLE - As we continue to move forward through the 21st century, with all of the technological changes and advancements we have seen, it would seem that the library has become less important. Libraries in the 21st century are more than just places that hold books, they are community centers where people can come together, socialize, learn, and grow. At Stone Memorial Library, we do, of course, love our books. We have many new acquisitions to browse through, along with the classics that everyone loves. But did you know that our library provides access to other materials and services as well? We provide access to e-books, computers, internet, WiFi, magazines, audio books, DVDs, and more.

Our weekly children’s story time is a hit, and is set to restart on Tuesday, September 17, at 10 am. We are looking to start a weekly knitting and crocheting club for all skill levels. We also have a monthly book club that meets on the third Thursday of the month. If interested in participating with either, please contact the library for more information.

We are looking forward to offering other programs for our patrons to help bring our community’s families and community together. If there is an item, program, or service that you would like to see in our library, please let us know. Otherwise, do feel free to stop by and visit us when you can, and bid a warm hello to our new director, Lauren Lowery.

The Stone Memorial Library is located at 1101 Main St., Conneautville. Our hours are changing slightly! We will be open Monday & Friday, 1 – 6 pm, Tuesday & Thursday, 9 am – 6 pm, and Saturdays 9 am – 4 pm starting September 3rd. Feel free to also contact us via phone/fax at 814-587-2142.

- A Gold Level Library -

SPRINGBORO - “SPL” is having an anniversary book sale! We are celebrating our 75 years and our community gets to reap the benefits. You can get hard backs by best selling authors for 50 cents!!! There are still tons of great magazines, movies and audio books as well. Even an entire collection of vintage “Cars & Parts” magazines.

And after you check out the sale room, remember to look at the “NEW BOOK SHELVES” at the front of the library. We have lots of new books this month. Some on display include new books from Preston & Childs, Robin Carr, John Glatt and Philippa Gregory.

Join us every Saturday morning at 10 am for pre-school story hour. Our story time is led by an experienced “Pre-K” teacher and coaches children for what they should expect when they go off to school for the first time. Kids learn to participate, ask questions and share adult attention. We follow story time with a fun activity that teaches basic skills for school such as using scissors and glue. Parents are encouraged to stay, observe or just enjoy the library, using computers, reading the paper or a magazine. We ask that small children not be left unattended.

Libraries benefit greatly from local contributors and donations. If you are interested in helping with our fund raising efforts, Please contact our Director, Joy. We do several fund raising dinners and sales throughout the year. Our next big event will be the annual Soup & Sandwich Supper. We will be needing lots of pies to sell. This event is held the day before Thanksgiving.

Local groups or businesses can get some free recognition in December by volunteering to decorate one of our many trees that are featured in our holiday window displays. Stop by and speak to our director and we can reserve a tree for you.

Also, for a small donation, you can place a memorial or dedication in a book. This is a great way to honor a love one, receive a tax write off or just do something great for your neighborhood. Much of our funding goes to implementing new programs. We constantly strive to implement new programs for kids, adults and seniors.

Spend an afternoon at the library with your kids. Our Saturday hours have returned to the 9am- 4pm schedule. Parents can stay while kids enjoy story time and activities. Come in and use the computers, read a magazine, check out our music CDs or peruse the Best sellers.

Become familiar with our website’s “Power Library”. This is a great tool for writers and students as it includes references and bibliographies that you can’t get through your online research. And it will also direct you to related articles on those topics. There is also free access to “Universal Class” which has over 500 subjects! You can earn free CE credits with “Universal Class”. All you need is a library card.

Crafts are usually scheduled for the 3rd Thursday of every month. Our next workshop will be on September 19th. There will be a kid’s craft as well. Ask for the sign up sheet at our main desk.

If you are looking for the latest book in a series or an earlier book in a series, ask about our interlibrary loan system. We can order books from libraries across Pennsylvania. So if you don’t find it on our shelves, we may be able to order it or get it from another library.

If you have an idea for a book, movie, workshop or activity, please stop by and speak to our Library Director. We aim to provide the most current educational materials as well as entertainment media and crafts for our community.

For more information on any events or activities, please call the library at 814-587-3901 or visit our website www.ccfls.org/springboro or check out the latest news on facebook.
