Stone Memorial Library

CONNEAUTVILLE - As we continue to move forward through the 21st century, with all of the technological changes and advancements we have seen, it would seem that the library has become less important. Libraries in the 21st century are more than just places that hold books, they are community centers where people can come together, socialize, learn, and grow. At Stone Memorial Library, we do, of course, love our books! We have many new acquisitions to browse through, along with the classics that everyone loves. But did you know that our library provides access to other materials and services as well? We provide access to e-books, computers, internet, WiFi, magazines, audio books, DVDs, and more.

Our weekly children’s Story Time is back! Bring the kids every Tuesday morning, anytime after 10 am for a bit of socializing, playtime, crafting, interactive storytelling, and snacks, all put together by Julie Klingler. Each week we explore a new theme that is sure to please.

Our weekly Knitting and Crocheting club will be starting on Thursday, October 10, at 10 am. All skill levels are welcome to join in, socialize, and stitch! We also have a monthly book club that meets on the third Thursday of the month.

We are looking forward to offering other programs in the future for our patrons to help bring our community and its families together. If there is an item, program, or service that you would like to see in our library, please let us know. Otherwise, do feel free to stop by and visit us when you can, and bid a warm hello to our new director, Lauren Lowery.

We would also like to announce that we are participating in the first annual Crawford Gives on Wednesday, October 2. A 24-hour online donation campaign, each dollar donated will be matched through prorated matching. For more information, please visit http://crawfordgives.com Of course, we are always willing to accept cash donations, or even the donations of your unwanted books. If the book does not end up in our collection, we will put it toward our next book sale.

We also participate in the Amazon Smile program. Through Amazon Smile, a portion of the purchases that you make on Amazon gets donated to a charity of your choice. If you visit http://smile.amazon.com, you can connect your Amazon account to us – James A. Stone Memorial Library Association in Conneautville PA!

Springboro Library happenings

- A Gold Level Library -

SPRINGBORO - Stop by during the month of September for our anniversary book sale! We are celebrating our 75th birthday with a big book sale! You can get hard backs, paper backs, movies, magazines and more!!! There is even an entire collection of vintage “Cars & Parts” magazines. Prices start at 25 cents!!

And after you check out the sale room, remember to look at the “NEW BOOK SHELVES” at the front of the library. We have lots of new books this month. Some on display include new books from Jane Green, William Kent Krueger, Jeffrey Archer and Susan Wittig Albert. And we have some good ghost stories for all ages to get you ready for Halloween.

Pre-school story hour is every Saturday morning at 10 am. Our story time is led by an experienced “Pre-K” teacher and coaches children for what they should expect when they go off to school for the first time. Kids learn to participate, ask questions and share adult attention. We follow story time with a fun activity that teaches basic skills for school such as using scissors and glue. Parents are encouraged to stay, observe or just enjoy the library, using computers, reading the paper or a magazine. We ask that small children not be left unattended.

Libraries benefit greatly from local contributors and donations. If you are interested in helping with our fund raising efforts, Please contact our Director, Joy. We do several fund raising dinners and sales throughout the year. Our next big event will be the annual Soup & Sandwich Supper. We will be needing lots of pies to sell. This event features homemade soups, sandwiches and pies. It is held every year the day before Thanksgiving.

Local groups or businesses can get some free recognition in December by volunteering to decorate one of our many trees that are featured in our holiday window displays. Stop by and speak to our director and we can reserve a tree for you. We start decorating the day after Thanksgiving.

Also, For a small donation, you can place a memorial or dedication in a book. Or you can purchase a plaque to be placed on the wall next to our meeting table. This is a great way to honor a love one, receive a tax write off or just do something great for your neighborhood. Much of our funding goes to implementing new programs. We constantly strive to implement new programs for kids, adults and seniors.

Spend an afternoon at the library with your kids. Our Saturday hours have returned to the 9 am- 4 pm schedule. Parents can stay while kids enjoy story time and activities. Come in and use the computers, read a magazine, check out our music CDs or peruse the Best sellers.

Become familiar with our website’s “Power Library”. This is a great tool for writers and students as it includes references and bibliographies that you can’t get through your online research. And it will also direct you to related articles on those topics. There is also free access to “Universal Class” which has over 500 subjects! You can earn free CE credits with “Universal Class”. All you need is a library card.

Crafts are usually scheduled for the 3rd Thursday of every month.

If you are looking for the latest book in a series or an earlier book in a series, ask about our interlibrary loan system. We can order books from libraries across Pennsylvania. So if you don’t find it on our shelves, we may be able to order it or get it from another library.

If you have an idea for a book, movie, workshop or activity, please stop by and speak to our Library Director. We aim to provide the most current educational materials as well as entertainment media and crafts for our community.
