Stone Memorial Library

CONNEAUTVILLE - As we continue to move forward through the 21st century, with all of the technological changes and advancements we have seen, it would seem that the library has become less important. Libraries in the 21st century are more than just places that hold books, they are community centers where people can come together, socialize, learn, and grow. At Stone Memorial Library, we do, of course, love our books. We have many new acquisitions to browse through, along with the classics that everyone loves. But did you know that our library provides access to other materials and services as well? We provide access to e-books, computers, internet, WiFi, magazines, audio books, DVDs, and more.

Our weekly children’s storytime is a hit, and is set to restart on Tuesday, September 17, at 10 am.

We have a knitting and crocheting club that meets on a weekly basis on Thursday mornings, all skill levels are welcome to attend. We also have a monthly book club on the third Thursday of the month. If interested in participating with either, please contact the library for more information. On Saturday, September 14th we will be having a Library Scavenger hunt starting at 11am. Please contact the library to sign up. We are looking forward to offering other programs for our patrons to help bring our community’s families and community together. If there is an item, program, or service that you would like to see in our library, please let us know. Otherwise, do feel free to stop by and visit us when you can!

We would like to bid a fond farewell to our current Library Director, Pam Clark. Pam says that “it has been a pleasure to have been a part of the community” and that she has “enjoyed getting to know everyone.” Thank you for service, Pam, you will be missed!

As we bid farewell to Pam, we would like to welcome our incoming Library Director, Lauren Lowery. Lauren is originally from Monaca, PA, a small mill town on the Ohio River in Southwestern Pennsylvania. She received dual Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees from Edinboro University of PA in 2011 with concentrations in Photography and Printmaking. She has worked in various customer service and non-profit positions in the years since. She is currently working towards her Masters in Library Science through Clarion University of PA’s online program, concentrating in Local and Archival studies. Lauren loves libraries and small towns and is excited to begin working here at Stone Memorial! She currently lives in Edinboro, PA with her fiancé and their cat, Branwen.

The Stone Memorial Library is located at 1101 Main St., Conneautville. Our hours are changing slightly! We will be open Monday & Friday, 1 – 6 pm, Tuesday & Thursday, 9 am – 6 pm, and Saturdays 9 am – 4 pm starting September 3rd. Closed on Monday, September 2nd in observance of Labor Day. Feel free to also contact us via phone/fax at 814-587-2142.

Springboro Library happenings

- A Gold Level Library -

SPRINGBORO - With the leaves turning colors, “SPL” is planning many Autumn activities. We have a tea party and book sale planned for our 75th birthday, a Halloween event, our traditional “Soup and Sandwich Supper” and much more. And watch for Fall-themed craft workshops to make decorations for your holiday home.

Anyone can participate in our workshops. Of course we encourage all to become library patrons. However, our services are here for the community and we welcome all to our workshops. You can find scheduled workshops on our website or our Facebook page. Crafts are usually scheduled for the 3rd Thursday of every month. Our next workshop will be on September 19th. There will be a kid’s craft as well. Ask for the sign up sheet at our main desk.

The best way to get kids to enjoy reading is by reading to them from an early age. Join us every Saturday morning at 10 am for pre-school story hour. Our story time is led by an experienced “Pre-K” teacher and coaches children for what they should expect when they go off to school for the first time. Kids learn to participate, ask questions and share adult attention. We follow story time with a fun activity that teaches basic skills for school such as using scissors and glue. Parents are encouraged to stay, observe or just enjoy the library, using computers, reading the paper or a magazine. We ask that small children not be left unattended.

Libraries benefit greatly from local contributors and donations. If you are interested in helping with our fund raising efforts, Please contact our Director, Joy. We do several fund raising dinners and sales throughout the year. For a small donation you can also place a memorial or dedication in a book. This is a great way to honor a love one, receive a tax write off or just do something great for your neighborhood. Much of our funding goes to implementing new programs. We constantly strive to implement new programs for kids, adults and seniors.

Spend an afternoon at the library with your kids.

Our Saturday hours are now our normal 9am- 4pm schedule. Parents can stay while kids enjoy storytime and activities. Come in and use the computers, read a magazine, check out our music CDs or peruse the Best sellers at the front of the library.

Our new books on display this week include books by Robert Crais, Susan Wiggs, David Baldacci and Spencer Quinn.

Get ready for writing papers at school by becoming familiar with our website’s “Power Library”. This is a great tool for writers as it includes references and bibliographies that you can’t get through your online research. And it will also direct you to related articles on those topics. There is also free access to “Universal Class” which has over 500 subjects! You can earn free CE credits with “Universal Class”. All you need is a library card.

If you have an idea for a book, movie, workshop or activity, please stop by and speak to our Library Director. We aim to provide the most current educational materials as well as entertainment media and crafts for our community.

For more information on any events or activities, please call the library at 814-587-3901 or visit our website www.ccfls.org/springboro or check out the latest news on facebook.
