Stone Memorial Library

CONNEAUTVILLE - The grand finale for the Summer Library Challenge was held Tuesday with a family picnic in the park. Our special guest was C. Wolf from the Erie Seawolves minor league baseball team. C. Wolf autographed several cards and hats and had his picture taken with many of the families. Dave Samuels was also there with his mobile “Starlab”. Everyone enjoyed delicious food, games, and making stepping stones in honor of the 50th anniversary of the moon landing. Congratulations to the winners of our prize baskets. Everyone went with free books and vouchers for a Seawolves game. Thank you to everyone for participating.

The library will once again be participating in National Night Out at Lord Mason Park on Tuesday, August 6, from 5:00 – 8:00 pm. National Night Out is a community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships to make our communities a safer, better place to raise our families. There will be food vendors, giveaways, and fun activities for the whole family. Come out and meet McGruff the crime fighting dog, Sparky the fire safety dog, the CASH Eagle, Froggy and several other mascots. This is a great time to come out and enjoy the evening with your neighbors!

We would like to thank the Borough of Conneautville for the use of Lord Mason Park for our summer program. The park is a wonderful asset to the community. Also, Allen Clark does a nice job promoting the various activities the town has to offer and we appreciate his support!

We have many new books and DVD’s available for adults and children. Be sure to stop in and check out our new selections. On Thursdays, we have a Teen & Tween activity at 1:00 in the library. \If you are looking for a good summer read or a movie to watch be sure to stop in. We would love to see you.

Stone Memorial Library is located at 1101 Main Street, Conneautville, PA. Our hours are Monday & Friday 1-6, Tuesday & Thursday 9-6, and Saturday 9-1. You can reach us at 587-2142.

Springboro Library happenings

- A Gold Level Library -

SPRINGBORO - Grab a book and escape the heat! We are gearing our books and crafts towards summer themed activities. Our displays include books on picnics, boating, biking, swimming and “The Dog Days Of Summer”.

New adult fiction and non-fiction are always displayed at the front of the library. New best sellers this week include books by Riley Sager, Chandler Baker and J. Todd Scott.

We also received a new batch of kid’s books! This summer you can teach your children about eating healthy, eating ethnic varieties of food and about going to the food market. Kids are never too young to learn life long eating habits. We also have a coordinating grocery shopping game that kids can come and play with their parents or at our pre-school story hour on Saturday morning.

The best way to get kids to enjoy reading is by reading to them from an early age. Join us every Saturday morning at 10 am for pre-school story hour. Our story time is led by an experienced “Pre-K” teacher and coaches children for what they should expect when they go off to school for the first time. Kids learn to participate, ask questions and share adult attention. We follow story time with a fun activity that teaches basic skills for school such as using scissors and glue. Parents are encouraged to stay, observe or just enjoy the library, using computers, reading the paper or a magazine. We ask that small children not be left unattended.

We couldn’t do all that we do without the help of our generous benefactors, local donations and our many fund raisers arranged by our board members. Thanks to all and especially to the local businesses that donated gifts for our summer reading program. Thanks again to the Erie Zoo, ExpERIEnce Children’s Museum, Waldameer and Carnegie Science Center. The kids did a lot of reading to win those prize baskets. There are still a few prizes left to be claimed. Call or stop by with your kids and we will let you know the winners.

If you would like to donate to the library or place a memorial or dedication in a book, stop by and speak to our director. This is a great way to honor a love one, receive a tax write off or just do something great for your neighborhood. The library benefits all ages. We constantly strive to implement new programs for kids adults and seniors.

Springboro Public Library is now rated a “Gold Star Library” by the PA forward program. We achieved this rating through efforts to incorporate 5 basic literacies including health, finance and civic and social literacies that benefit our community most.

Our next big event is in the planning stages. We are coming up on our 75th anniversary. This little library was hard won through the efforts of locals and our former director, Faith Scott. Our current director, Joy, recalls typing up cook books to be sold at fund raisers. We also held countless suppers, book sales, etc. to keep the building maintained. Join us this September as we hold a special celebration of our 75 years of service to Springboro.

Check out all that your library has to offer by following us on facebook or looking up our website. We post all of our activities and workshops as well as new books, movies and e-books.

Our website’s “Power Library” is great for writers as it includes references and bibliographies that you can’t get through your online research. And it will also direct you to related articles on those topics. There is also free access to “Universal Class” which has over 500 subjects! You can earn free CE credits with “Universal Class”. All you need is a library card.

You can also keep up with our craft workshop schedule on our website or on Facebook. We do craft workshops on the 3rd Thursday of every month. Our next workshop will be on August 15th.

If you have an idea for a book, movie, workshop or activity, please stop by and speak to our Library Director. We aim to provide the most current educational materials as well as entertainment media and crafts for our community.

There are new music CDs also! And new magazines every month.

Remember, we have audio books to check out if reading isn’t your thing. Our rotating collections have all your favorites, best selling authors.
