- A Gold Level Library -

SPRINGBORO - Our Summer Reading Program continues! This is a great program that motivates kids and adults to broaden their horizons, not only through reading, but also with fun learning activities. This year we have prize baskets including tickets to Waldameer, The Erie Zoo, Carnegie Science Museum and ExpERIEnce Children’s Museum. We also have a mystery prize! Kids and adults can still sign up. The program runs until July 27th.

On July 6th, we had a great turnout for our galaxy inspired paint workshop. Patrons and kids painted galaxy rocks and made cloud paint with shaving cream. It was messy but fun. Stop by and check out some of our artwork.

July 13th we did an activity with crystals. And on July 27th, we will do moonstones! These are just a few of the fun things we do during our “Kids Create” hour every Saturday at 11am. There are also puzzles, games, building blocks and other toys that encourage kids to learn.

Mark your calendars for July 20th and come find us at Springboro Park during the “Celebrate Springboro Festival”. Every year the library participates in this small celebration of our little, country community.

Whatever your summer fun entails, we have the right book for you! Our new books shelves at the front of the library always include the latest arrivals in fiction and non-fiction. “The Teen Kitchen”, “Me and My Sewing Machine”, “A Good American Family” and “Woodworking For The Garden” are just a few of the new non-fiction titles. We also have new fiction by Harlan Coben, Kate Atkinson and Jeff Roven with a new Tom Clancy story.

Our teen reading and juvenile bookshelves also have the most popular authors as well as beloved classics. Reading is great way to get teens off of their phones or computers and interested in all that the world has to offer. We have magazines and music to interest teens as well.

We are proud to announce that we recently received our certificate of achievement for the PA forward star program. We are now a “Gold Level Library”. This certifies that we are proficient in five different literacy programs that help make a community stronger.

Check our website or facebook anytime for craft workshops, new movies and books. And let us know your requests.

We can also do memorials and dedications. If you have a loved one that you would like to dedicate a book to, you can have our library director order a fiction or non-fiction book. A label will be placed in the front of the book with the name and dedication. See our main desk for more information.

Remember to LIKE us on facebook and check out our website. The website’s “power library” includes references, bibliographies and related articles on chosen topics. There are also a variety of e-books and free access to universal classes for over 500 subjects

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if every child participated in summer learning, and as a result, raised literacy rates throughout the area? Children learn best when their learning is not interrupted – and summer vacation is a long interruption!

Without practice, children forget facts and important “how to” skills. The Springboro Public Library’s Summer Library Program helps children’s minds to stay active by bridging the gap between school years.

Nurturing basic literacy skills is one of the goals of PA Forward Pennsylvania Libraries, an initiative of the Pennsylvania Library Association.

Research shows that a child’s library use raises his or her fourth grade assessment scores.

Help spark learning in all of children this summer by supporting and participating in the Summer Library Program.

And remember to join us on the 3rd Thursday of the month at 6 pm for craft night. We hold craft workshops regularly. There are some special ones planned during the summer reading program. Sign ups are at the main desk.

There are new music CDs also! And new magazines every month.

Remember, we have audio books to check out if reading isn’t your thing. Our rotating collections have all your favorites, best selling authors.
