Springboro Library happenings

SPRINGBORO - It’s fall and we have new books to cozy up with. Come in and see our current selections.

We are always updating our collection here. This weeks new books include best selling authors such as Dean Koontz and Beverly Lewis. If you have suggestions, let us know. We are always happy to search for your requests. Teens come in and tell us your requests too!

The results of our library’s “Great American Read” contest are in. Springboro Library chose “Harry Potter” as its favorite book. “The chronicles of Narnia” came in 2nd place. The ticket winner that we chose in our drawing won tickets to the Oil Creek Railroad in Titusville.

Based on our winning selection, we will schedule a Harry Potter escape room this fall. Come sign up at our main desk. Or sign up for one of our craft workshops. The next workshop will be on Thursday, October 4, at 6 pm.

Check out magazines, movies, music CDs, play aways and books on CD. We have a variety of materials for the whole family. Patrons are welcome to come in and read or use the internet in a quiet, relaxing atmosphere. In addition, our children’s corner features books, games and toys. Join us for pre-school story hour on Saturday mornings at 10 am and for kids activities at 11 am.

Remember to LIKE us on facebook and check out our website. The website offers a variety of reference materials which are perfect for students of all ages who are writing papers for school. The website’s “power library” includes references, bibliographies and related articles on chosen topics. Along with crafts, “SPL” will also be having “Book Chat” on the 2nd Tuesday of every month. Come in and share your favorite old and new books. No specific books will be assigned. This club is for those who want to compare notes with other book lovers and possibly get tips on new authors who they have not read before.

CONNEAUTVILLE - It is hard to believe that it is already October! The fall programs have begun again and participation has been great! We had a construction theme this past week. Miss Julie had various sensory activities that were enjoyed by all. She was even brave enough to provide hammers and nails to pound into blocks of wood. I am sure the kids learned some skills that they could use at home! This week we will be learning about trees. If you would like to join us we meet at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday mornings.

Our next Book Club will be Thursday, October 18, at 6:30 p.m. The book of choice is “One Thousand White Women: the journals of May Dodd” by Jim Fergus.

We have some new programming that we are offering to adults age 16 and over. On October 11, we will have a class on resumes, applications, and interviewing. So if you are looking for a job or getting ready to look for a job this is for you. On October 22, we will be having a class on Financial Literacy. Both of these programs would be an excellent opportunity for you to learn how to manage your finances. Please call 587-2142 to register.

The second Saturday of the month is Legos at the Library. We meet at 10:00 a.m. So grab a friend and come to the library to create!

Stone Memorial Library is open Monday & Friday 1-6, Tuesday & Thursday 9-6, and Saturday from 9-1. You can reach us at 587-2142. Stop in and see us.
