Stone Memorial Library

CONNEAUTVILLE - As we continue to move forward through the 21st century, with all of the technological changes and advancements we have seen, it would seem that the library has become less important. Libraries in the 21st century are more than just places that hold books, they are community centers where people can come together, socialize, learn, and grow. At Stone Memorial Library, we do, of course, love our books! We have many new acquisitions to browse through, along with the classics that everyone loves. But did you know that our library provides access to other materials and services as well? We provide access to e-books, computers, internet, WiFi, magazines, audio books, DVDs, and more.

Bring the kids every Tuesday morning for Story Time! Come in around 10 am for a bit of socializing, playtime, crafting, interactive storytelling, and snacks, all put together by Julie Klingler. Each week we explore a new theme that is sure to please.

Our weekly Stitch Club meets weekly on Thursdays at 10 am. All skill levels and types of stitchery are welcome to join, from crocheting and knitting to embroidery.

Our Monthly Book Club will be reading “The Story of Beautiful Girl” by Rachel Simon. December’s meeting will be held on Thursday, December 19, at pm.

It is possible to help out Stone Memorial Library in other ways too. Volunteering can be a great way to enrich one’s life at any stage. We are always willing to accept cash donations, or even the donations of your unwanted books. If the book does not end up in our collection, we will put it toward our next book sale.

Memorials are also another way that you can give to our library, and they are a kind and thoughtful way to honor the life and spirit of a loved one. Memorial books help our collection reflect the lives of those who have lived and worked in our community, and helps that person’s story live on long after their passing, even if just in a story that they enjoyed.

We also participate in the Amazon Smile program. Through Amazon Smile, a portion of the purchases that you make on Amazon gets donated to a charity of your choice. If you visit http://smile.amazon.com, you can connect your Amazon account to us – James A. Stone Memorial Library Association in Conneautville PA!

If there is a book or a program that you would like to see in our library, be sure to let our director, Lauren Lowery, know! Looking forward, we are planning some great things for 2020, so stay tuned!

The Stone Memorial Library is located at 1101 Main St. Conneautville PA, 16406. We are open Monday & Friday, 1 – 6pm, Tuesday & Thursday, 9am – 6pm, and Saturdays 9am – 4pm. Feel free to also contact us via phone / fax at 814-587-2142.

Outside of our regular hours, we will be closed December 24 for Christmas Eve; and December 31 for New Year’s Eve.

Springboro Library happenings

- A Gold Level Library -

SPRINGBORO - It’s holiday time here at “SPL”. Our windows are decorated as well as our antique sleigh from the family of Springboro’s historic Graves & Eighmy Sleigh Co. The company was in business here in town from 1842 until 1911. We are proud to feature the sleigh in our front window and enjoy decorating it for holidays.

Stop by to enjoy the decor and get in the holiday spirit! This year, we have trees from the local girls scouts, local artist, Tammy Clement, the Amicus Club, the local Garden Club, Springboro Cheer and our own Pre-school storytime kids. We look forward to showing the trees off in our windows all month with a few of our own special book themed trees.

There are plenty of new books to enjoy for the holidays. We have something for everyone in the family. Our books on display this week include: Tom Clancy’s “Code of Honor”, Janet Evanovich “ Twisted Twenty Six”, Jennifer Chiaverini’s “The Christmas Boutique” and Sophie Kinsella’s “Christmas Shopaholic”. We also have new kid’s and pre-teen books on display. Check out “There’s An Elf In Your Book” and “Deck the Halls We’re Off the Walls”. And remember, we have all the cook books you need for any holiday meal.

This past week our board members hosted our annual staff holiday party. The event was also a going away party for our beloved Library Director. Joy has been with us since 1992! We are all sad to see her go. During the party, an emotional speech was given by the grandaughter of Faith Scott. Faith was our library’s first Director. There wasn’t a dry eye in the room as she recalled working and training with Joy for many years. She spoke of all that Joy has done here to enhance our library. Joy has been very community oriented as a Director and will be greatly missed!

Public libraries are a great asset to any community. We are continually upgrading our system and adding more services for our patrons. In addition to a first rate pre-school storytime and popular craft workshops we have had senior cafe’s, community chat evenings, game and puzzle nights, book clubs and more. Most recently, we are adding hotspots. Hotspots operate on the T-mobile network and grant internet access to the patron. The library does not track your usage. But they can turn off usage if not returned on time. The new hotspots will be available to check out for 14 days at all Crawford County libraries. Check out our website or Facebook page to see more.

Our craft workshops will continue on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of every month. We’d like to thank our patrons for the increased attendance! On Dec. 9th, we made Santas and snowmen from splatter screens. Come on in and join us for the next one. December 19th we will have a candy cane wreath making workshop. If you are curious about our craft workshops, take a look at our facebook photos. We are very proud of our creative patrons. All ages are welcome to join. We always include a craft for kids under 12 as well.

Remember, it is free to get a library card for kids and adults. There are many benefits. Take advantage of all your library has to offer. We aim to provide the most current educational materials as well as entertainment media and crafts for our community.

We just got collection #4 of the rotating Playaways in. If you have never tried “playaways”, they are a nice alternative to books . Just plug in your head phones and settle in somewhere comfortable to listen. They are for all ages and include fiction and non-fiction.

Library hours are: Monday through Thursday, 12 pm. - 7:30 pm, Fridays, 12 pm - 4 pm and Saturday 9 am - 4 pm.
