CONNEAUTVILLE - As we continue to move forward through the 21st century, with all of the technological changes and advancements we have seen, it would seem that the library has become less important. Libraries in the 21st century are more than just places that hold books, they are community centers where people can come together, socialize, learn, and grow. At Stone Memorial Library, we do, of course, love our books! We have many new acquisitions to browse through, along with the classics that everyone loves. But did you know that our library provides access to other materials and services as well? We provide access to e-books, computers, internet, WiFi, magazines, audio books, DVDs, and more.
Bring the kids every Tuesday morning for Story Time! Come in around 10 am for a bit of socializing, playtime, crafting, interactive storytelling, and snacks, all put together by Julie Klingler. Each week we explore a new theme that is sure to please.
Our weekly Stitch Club meets weekly on Thursdays at 10 am. All skill levels and types of stitchery are welcome to join, from crocheting and knitting to embroidery.
Our Monthly Book Club will be reading “The Story of Beautiful Girl” by Rachel Simon. December’s meeting will be held on Thursday, December 19, at 6 pm.
It is possible to help out Stone Memorial Library in other ways too. Volunteering can be a great way to enrich one’s life at any stage. We are also always willing to accept cash donations, or even the donations of your unwanted books. If the book does not end up in our collection, we will put it toward our next book sale.
Memorials are also another way that you can give to our library, and they are a kind and thoughtful way to honor the life and spirit of a loved one. Memorial books help our collection reflect the lives of those who have lived and worked in our community, and helps that person’s story live on long after their passing, even if just in a story that they enjoyed.
We also participate in the Amazon Smile program. Through Amazon Smile, a portion of the purchases that you make on Amazon gets donated to a charity of your choice. Outside of our regular hours, we will be closed December 24 for Christmas Eve; and December 31 for New Year’s Eve.
Springboro Library happenings
- A Gold Level Library -
SPRINGBORO - It’s holiday time and we are loaded up with holiday cheer and holiday books, movies, magazines and music! This week we decorated our four windows. Stop by and get in the spirit! This year, we have trees from the local girls scouts, a local artist, the Amicus Club, the local garden club and Springboro Cheer. We look forward to showing the trees off in our windows all month with a few of our own special book themed trees.
Pre-school storytime kids can enjoy making holiday decor with us also. Our story hour is every Saturday at 10 am. We follow it with “Kids create”. A special craft time especially for kids.
There are plenty of new books for kids to enjoy for the holidays. We have something for everyone in the family.
This past year, we have been expanding our collections. We have added many graphic novels and lots of new non-fiction. Our Director has been keeping the “new book” shelves full! However, we always look at requests!
Our books on display this week include: PKaren White’s “The Christmas Spirits on Tradd Street”, Nelson DeMille’s “ The Deserter”, James Patterson’s “19th Christmas” and Debbie Macomber’s “Kisses In The Snow”. We also have new kid’s and pre-teen books on display.
We’d also like to thank all the community members who donated to this year’s fund drive! Patrons can make donations anytime. Or you can purchase books in a loved one’s name. We also hold fund raising dinners and book sales a few times a year. The help we receive keeps us going strong!
Our craft workshops will continue on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of every month. The attendance has been fantastic! On December 19, is candy cane wreath making. Anyone can take a look at our facebook photos of our craft workshops. We are very proud of our creative patrons. All ages are welcome to join. We always include a craft for kids under 12.
Remember, it is free to get a library card for kids and adults. There are many benefits. Take advantage of all your library has to offer. We aim to provide the most current educational materials as well as entertainment media and crafts for our community.
We just got collection #4 of the rotating Playaways in. If you have never tried “playaways”, they are a nice alternative to books . Just plug in your head phones and settle in somewhere comfortable to listen. They are for all ages and include fiction and non-fiction.
Library hours are: Monday through Thursday, 12 pm. - 7:30 pm, Fridays, 12 pm - 4 pm and Saturday 9 am - 4 pm.
Are you interested in furthering your education? Check out “Universal Class” which has over 500 subjects for career preparation or favorite hobbies! You can earn free CE credits with “Universal Class”. There is even a course in Genealogy. All you need is a library card. And you can get one for free!
