Stone Memorial Library

CONNEAUTVILLE - As we continue to move forward through the 21st century, with all of the technological changes and advancements we have seen, it would seem that the library has become less important. Libraries in the 21st century are more than just places that hold books, they are community centers where people can come together, socialize, learn, and grow. At Stone Memorial Library, we do, of course, love our books! We have many new acquisitions to browse through, along with the classics that everyone loves. But did you know that our library provides access to other materials and services as well? We provide access to e-books, computers, internet, WiFi, magazines, audio books, DVDs, and more.

Our weekly children’s Story Time is back! Bring the kids every Tuesday morning, anytime after 10 am for a bit of socializing, playtime, crafting, interactive storytelling, and snacks, all put together by Julie Klingler. Each week we explore a new theme that is sure to please.

Our weekly Crochet and Knitting Club meets weekly on Thursdays at 10 am. All skill levels are welcome to join in, socialize, and stitch! We also have a monthly book club that meets on the third Thursday of the month.

We are looking forward to offering other programs in the future for our patrons to help bring our community and its families together. If there is an item, program, or service that you would like to see in our library, please let us know. Otherwise, do feel free to stop by and visit us when you can, and bid a warm hello to our new director, Lauren Lowery.

It is possible to help out Stone Memorial Library in many ways too. Volunteers are always appreciated and helpful, and volunteering can be a great way to enrich one’s life at any stage. We are also always willing to accept cash donations, or even the donations of your unwanted books. If the book does not end up in our collection, we will put it toward our next book sale.

Memorials are also another way that you can give to our library, and they are a kind and thoughtful way to honor the life and spirit of a loved one. Memorial books help our collection reflect the lives of those who have lived and worked in our community, and helps that person’s story live on long after their passing, even if just in a story that they enjoyed.

We also participate in the Amazon Smile program. Through Amazon Smile, a portion of the purchases that you make on Amazon gets donated to a charity of your choice. If you visit http://smile.amazon.com, you can connect your Amazon account to us – James A. Stone Memorial Library Association in Conneautville PA!

The Stone Memorial Library is located at 1101 Main St., Conneautville. Our hours are Monday & Friday, 1 – 6 pm, Tuesday & Thursday, 9am – 6pm, and Saturdays 9am – 4pm. Ccontact us via phone / fax at 814-587-2142.

Springboro Library happenings

- A Gold Level Library -

SPRINGBORO - November is for more than Thanksgiving here at the library. It is also National Native American Heritage month. And November 11th is Veteran’s Day. Stop by to see our displays for armed forces, Native Americans, Pilgrims and holiday cooking. We have some beautiful books out.

“SPL” is getting ready for one of our favorite annual fundraisers. The day before Thanksgiving, annual “Soup & Sandwich Supper” is a community favorite as well as well as one of ours. For $7.00, folks can take a break from their holiday preparations, get out of the kitchen and come hang out with neighbors while enjoying some home made soups, sandwiches and pies. This event is held at the Springboro Volunteer Fire hall on November 27, from 4:30 pm - 7 pm. We are really thankful that the fire hall hosts us every year.

We also sell locally made crafts as well as center pieces made by “SPL” at the supper. And you can buy a pie to take home. Anyone who would like to donate a pie or craft to benefit the library, may sign up at the main desk or call us.

Our craft workshops have been gaining popularity! The last 3 workshops have been full! A big “Thank You” to all our creative patrons. We will continue the workshops through the holidays on the first and third Thursday of each month. We made beaded jewelry on November 7th. And on November 21st, a local artist will lead us painting mandala rocks. Then on the day after Thanksgiving, we start decorating trees.

Every year, our four, large, display windows light up this little town. Get creative and receive some free publicity for your business or local group. We put a sign under your tree with the name. All you have to bring are your ornaments. We provide the tree and your choice of lights. Give us a call to let us know when you would like to come. There is only one white tree left. The rest are green. Reserve your tree now by stopping in or calling our director. Decorating starts November 29th. And remember, we are a library. If you can tie a book to your tree decor, we can help you find it.

Looking for some decorating inspiration for Thanksgiving or Christmas? We have an entire section of books devoted to holiday crafts. We also have some terrific cookbooks. And check out our “New Book” shelves for the latest in crafting and cooking.

The new books on display this week include books by Jennifer Weiner with “Mrs. Everything”, Julianne Mclean with “A Fire Sparkling”, and Alan Hlad with “The Long Flight Home “. Stop by to check out our large, diverse selection. We have new non-fiction as well. Check out our new cook book, “The Teen Kitchen” or read about “A Good American Family” by David Maraniss.

Some people say they don’t like to read. We tell them they just haven’t found the right book yet. Let us help. If you have an idea for a book, movie, workshop or activity, please stop by and speak to our Library Director. We aim to provide the most current educational materials as well as entertainment media and crafts for our community.

You can also place a memorial or dedication in a book. Memorials are placed in the front of your chosen book. Or a name plate can be put on our beautiful oak wall. This is a great way to honor a love one, receive a tax write off or just do something great for your neighborhood. Some of our funding goes to implementing new programs for community members and patrons of all ages. And of course for buying new books for our loyal readers!

Library hours are: Monday through Thursday, 12 pm. - 7:30 pm, Fridays, 12 pm - 4 pm and Saturday 9 am - 4 pm.
