Stone Memorial Library

CONNEAUTVILLE - As we continue to move forward through the 21st century, with all of the technological changes and advancements we have seen, it would seem that the library has become less important. Libraries in the 21st century are more than just places that hold books, they are community centers where people can come together, socialize, learn, and grow. At Stone Memorial Library, we do, of course, love our books! We have many new acquisitions to browse through, along with the classics that everyone loves. But did you know that our library provides access to other materials and services as well? We provide access to e-books, computers, internet, WiFi, magazines, audio books, DVDs, and more.

Our weekly children’s Story Time is back! Bring the kids every Tuesday morning, anytime after 10 am for a bit of socializing, playtime, crafting, interactive storytelling, and snacks, all put together by Julie Klingler. Each week we explore a new theme that is sure to please.

Our weekly Crochet and Knitting Club meets weekly on Thursdays at 10 am. All skill levels are welcome to join in, socialize, and stitch! We also have a monthly book club that meets on the third Thursday of the month.

We are looking forward to offering other programs in the future for our patrons to help bring our community and its families together. If there is an item, program, or service that you would like to see in our library, please let us know. Otherwise, do feel free to stop by and visit us when you can, and bid a warm hello to our new director, Lauren Lowery.

We would like to express our gratitude to those who donated to Stone Memorial Library during this year’s Crawford Gives campaign! Through Crawford Gives, a 24-hour online donation campaign, we were able to raise $850.02, all of which is eligible for prorated matching from the Crawford Gives organization. These donated funds will be put towards building maintenance, programming, and the acquisition of new materials. Thank you!

It is possible to help out Stone Memorial Library in other ways too. Volunteers are always appreciated and helpful, and volunteering can be a great way to enrich one’s life at any stage. We are also always willing to accept cash donations, or even the donations of your unwanted books. If the book does not end up in our collection, we will put it toward our next book sale.

Memorials are also another way that you can give to our library, and they are a kind and thoughtful way to honor the life and spirit of a loved one. Memorial books help our collection reflect the lives of those who have lived and worked in our community, and helps that person’s story live on long after their passing, even if just in a story that they enjoyed.

We also participate in the Amazon Smile program. Through Amazon Smile, a portion of the purchases that you make on Amazon gets donated to a charity of your choice. If you visit http://smile.amazon.com, you can connect your Amazon account to us – James A. Stone Memorial Library Association in Conneautville PA!

The Stone Memorial Library is located at 1101 Main St., Conneautville. Our hours are Monday & Friday, 1 – 6 pm, Tuesday & Thursday, 9am – 6pm, and Saturdays 9am – 4pm. Ccontact us via phone / fax at 814-587-2142.

Springboro Library happenings

- A Gold Level Library -

SPRINGBORO - We are now open on Fridays!! Our hours are changing just in time for the holidays. Our weekday hours will now begin at noon Monday through Friday. Our new hours will be posted at the door, on Facebook and on our website. (as well as here in our favorite newspaper)

Our craft workshop schedule also increased for Fall and through December. We thank everyone for the great attendance. The workshops will continue on the first and third Thursday of every month. Our next workshop will be on November 7th at 6 pm. It will be a beaded jewelry craft. These work shops are for ages 12 and up. However, we also plan a craft for kids under 12 in the children’s corner. Please sign up at the main desk as seating is limited.

We also do kids crafts every Saturday @ 11 am, following pre-school story hour. Kids learn to participate, ask questions and share adult attention. Our “Kids Create” hour is usually a fun craft or activity that teaches basic skills for school such as using scissors and glue. Our experienced, pre-k teacher reads a seasonal story and does a seasonal craft that kids can take home or possibly put in one of our display windows.

Parents can enjoy the library while their little ones learn and play. We offer more than books. Our four computers are available to patrons. The library also subscribes to 25 different magazines as well as 2 newspapers. You can also spend an hour going through our hobby sections in the stacks or check out the latest in music CDs.

“SPL” is currently planning our annual Soup & Sandwich Supper. Anyone looking for a break the day before Thanksgiving or just looking for a great home cooked meal can join us for a small donation. The offerings include locally made soups, sandwiches and pies! We also sell locally made crafts. Anyone who would like to donate a pie or craft to benefit the library, may sign up at the main desk or call us.

Local donations to our small library pay for more than you know. We are grateful to all donors. If you are interested in helping with our fund raising efforts, Please contact our Director, Joy. We hold fund raising dinners and sales throughout the year.

We also offer Holiday trees to decorate for local groups or businesses. We welcome scout troupes as well. Every year, our four, large, display windows light up this little town. Get creative and receive some free publicity. We put a sign under your tree with the name of the group or business. All you have to bring are your ornaments. We provide the tree and your choice of lights. Give us a call to let us know when you would like to come. There is only one white tree left. The rest are green. Reserve your tree now by stopping in or calling our director. Decorating starts the day after Thanksgiving.

You can also place a memorial or dedication in a book. Memorials are placed in the front of your chosen book. Or a name plate can be put on our beautiful oak wall. This is a great way to honor a love one, receive a tax write off or just do something great for your neighborhood. Some of our funding goes to implementing new programs for community members and patrons of all ages. And of course for buying new books for our loyal readers!

The new books on display this week include books by Owen Laukkenen with “The Stolen Ones”, Elly Griffith with “TheStone Circle”, and Alex Kava with “Desperate Creed”. Stop by to check out our selection. We have new non-fiction as well. And our Large print collection has just rotated and includes several that are brand new to the collection.

Library hours are: Monday through Thursday, 12 pm. - 7:30 pm, Fridays, 12 pm - 4 pm and Saturday 9 am - 4 pm.
