Stone Memorial Library

CONNEAUTVILLE - As we continue to move forward through the 21st century, with all of the technological changes and advancements we have seen, it would seem that the library has become less important. Libraries in the 21st century are more than just places that hold books, they are community centers where people can come together, socialize, learn, and grow. At Stone Memorial Library, we do, of course, love our books! We have many new acquisitions to browse through, along with the classics that everyone loves. But did you know that our library provides access to other materials and services as well? We provide access to e-books, computers, internet, WiFi, magazines, audio books, DVDs, and more.

Our weekly children’s Story Time is back! Bring the kids every Tuesday morning, anytime after 10 am for a bit of socializing, playtime, crafting, interactive storytelling, and snacks, all put together by Julie Klingler. Each week we explore a new theme that is sure to please.

Our weekly Knitting and Crocheting club starrted on Thursday, October 10, at 10 am. All skill levels are welcome to join in, socialize, and stitch! We also have a monthly book club that meets on the third Thursday of the month.

We are looking forward to offering other programs in the future for our patrons to help bring our community and its families together. If there is an item, program, or service that you would like to see in our library, please let us know. Otherwise, do feel free to stop by and visit us when you can, and bid a warm hello to our new director, Lauren Lowery.

We also participate in the Amazon Smile program. Through Amazon Smile, a portion of the purchases that you make on Amazon gets donated to a charity of your choice. If you visit http://smile.amazon.com, you can connect your Amazon account to us – James A. Stone Memorial Library Association in Conneautville PA!

The Stone Memorial Library is located at 1101 Main St., Conneautville. Our hours are Monday & Friday, 1 – 6 pm, Tuesday & Thursday, 9 am – 6 pm, and Saturdays 9 am – 4 pm. Feel free to also contact us via phone/fax at 814-587-2142.

Springboro Library happenings

- A Gold Level Library -

SPRINGBORO - Make “SPL” your “Get ready for the holidays” destination. We just got more new books for you! You can find everything from Halloween costume making to dessert ideas to fall yard displays to holiday craft ideas. And remember to pick up the latest in some good Halloween themed fiction.

We have the latest Heather Graham, “Krewe of Hunters” ghost story, a new murder mystery from Dean Koontz and a good witch craft story from Katherine Howe. That’s just to name a few. We’ve got tons for kids too!

Remember, you can find more than books here at the library. We have new music CDs, 25 different magazines, new movies every month and even audio books and “playaways”. The “playaways” only require head phones. There is a rotating large print collection also. We swap every couple of months to give you variety. And while you are checking out the selections, kids can do puzzles, play with building blocks or color in our “Kid’s Corner”.

We also do kids crafts every Saturday @ 11am, following pre-school story hour. Kids learn to participate, ask questions and share adult attention. Our “Kids Create” hour is usually a fun craft or activity that teaches basic skills for school such as using scissors and glue. Our experienced, pre-k teacher reads a seasonal story and does a seasonal craft that kids can take home or possibly put in one of our display windows.

Adults can join us for crafts on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of every month through the holidays at 6pm. In the last two workshops, we made table decor for Fall and a Halloween painting with talented , local artist, Tammy Clement. A few other workshops coming this fall are a bead workshop and a scrap booking workshop. Crafts are currently scheduled for 6 pm on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of every month through 2019. Our next workshop will be on October 17th. There will be a kid’s craft as well. Ask for the sign up sheet at our main desk.

Libraries benefit greatly from local contributors and donations. We do several fund raising dinners and sales throughout the year. Thanks to all who came down for our anniversary book sale. Our next event will be our annual “Soup and Sandwich Supper”. This is a local favorite and features homemade soups, sandwiches and pies. If you are interested in baking a pie to donate, please contact our library director. We also offer Holiday trees to decorate for local groups or businesses. We welcome scout troupes as well. The decorating starts on the day after Thanksgiving. Reserve your tree now by stopping in or calling our director.

You can also place a memorial or dedication in a book. This is a great way to honor a love one, receive a tax write off or just do something great for your neighborhood. Some of our funding goes to implementing new programs for community members and patrons of all ages. And of course for buying new books for our loyal readers!

If you are looking for the latest book in a series or an earlier book in a series, ask about our interlibrary loan system. We can order books from libraries across Pennsylvania. So if you don’t find it on our shelves, we may be able to order it or get it from another library.

Become familiar with our website’s “Power Library”. This is a great tool for writers and students as it includes references and bibliographies that you can’t get through your online research. And it will also direct you to related articles on those topics. There is also free access to “Universal Class” which has over 500 subjects! You can earn free CE credits with “Universal Class”. All you need is a library card.

If you have an idea for a book, movie, workshop or activity, please stop by and speak to our Library Director. We aim to provide the most current educational materials as well as entertainment media and crafts for our community.

We offer free Wi-Fi and our four computers are available to patrons. The library also subscribes to 25 different magazines as well as 2 newspapers. You can also spend an hour going through our hobby sections in the stacks or check out the latest in fiction and non-fiction.
