David Schaef update: (12/05/23)

I spoke with David yesterday. He had just arrived at the Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital in Erie.

There are still a couple of issues to resolve, and David is optimistic that Encompass has the skills. We didn't speak much of medicine and health, most of the conversation was about our subscribers and the Community News newspaper.

I was much encouraged by the tone of his voice and the idea he was interested in talking about Community News. So, he’s at that, “I want to get back to work” stage of healing.

He talked about his subscribers and a letter he is composing for them. He talked about how to proceed with the newspaper when he gets home.

He said he hopes to be home in 2 weeks.

Fix the roads, North Shenango resident demands
Written by Roseanne Staab

North Shenango Township held the July public meeting with Supervisors Bob Waddingham, Eloise Settlemyre, and Dan Dickey in attendance. Secretary Donna Kean was absent, so Tax Collector Geri Godina took the minutes. There were 16 citizens present. All stood to salute the American flag.

For Public Comment, a man who regularly attends the public meetings, is of the opinion that the local roads are in terrible shape and that the township does nothing to repair them. He also inquired as to where the township Code Officer is and why all of the old Ordinances are never updated.

“You don’t fix the roads, and you don’t make the Code Officer do his job,” the man stated.

A woman then took the floor to thank the Supervisors for the extra police patrols in the township. The Regional Police Department of Conneaut Lake continues to patrol NST and assist in emergency situations.

Another man addressed the Board in regard to the Code Officer. He asked why the Code Officer was not present at this meeting, since the Board had said he would be.

Dickey responded that the CO was “at court today,” in Andover, OH.

Dickey further stated that MDIA, of Middle Department Inspection Agency, and John Procek are the Building Code Inspectors for NST, not Code Officers.

The man asked the Board to please consider someone local for the position of Code Officer.
