God Will Take Care of You

I love tea. After water, it’s my favorite drink. I’m especially partial to lemon herbal teas, Bigelow’s Lemon Ginger being my favorite. But Bigelow’s I Love Lemon is a close second. Last Friday my daughter made me some gluten-free blueberry muffins with a lemon glaze (Ahem. I ate seven in two days). I enjoyed one with a steaming cup of I Love Lemon tea. Sunlight lit the room. A warm breeze made the curtains dance. It was a blissful moment. I took a sip of tea.

And I felt like someone took a needle and jammed it into the root of my tooth. I want to tell you, it hurt.

The next morning it ached without eating or drinking anything. It’d been cold-sensitive for years, even after my dentist filled a deep cavity in 2019.

It was absolutely throbbing by Monday. I called my dentist, knowing he’d closed because of the pandemic. I figured I’d leave a message and beg him to come in and examine my tooth.

Imagine my shock when his receptionist answered. I told her my tooth was throbbing and very heat sensitive. She spoke to my dentist, who called back half an hour later. He went to bat for me and got me in with an endodontist as a new patient for a root canal the next morning.

I was stunned. Everything’s closed. Everything! But this was an emergency, according to both my dentist and the endodontist who gave me a root canal.

Now, you know you’re an adult when you can hardly wait to get a root canal. I always thought the procedure sounded awful.

Not so. The pain before the procedure was awful. It was sore Monday morning. By Monday evening it had developed its own pulse. By Monday night the pain wrapped around my jaw from my top left bicuspid to my bottom left bicuspid. Thank God for ibuprofen.

After my root canal on Tuesday morning, my tooth and the injection site was pretty sore until Wednesday evening. But all I needed was ibuprofen, and I avoided crunchy and sticky foods. No big deal. It still hurt, but it didn’t throb.

As of this writing, I’m all better. Thank you, Jesus! No more heat or cold sensitivity. No more throbbing. No waking up at night in pain. Sigh…all better.

I had a root canal when everything was supposed to be closed because of a pandemic. I had an emergency; God used my dentist and an endodontist, along with the skills he gave them, to help me. And I really needed help. A toothache can take over your life.

What’s my point? God will take care of you. He took care of me in a crisis situation. I don’t mean to dramatize this; it was miserable. I can’t fix it. You can’t fix it either, unless you’re an endodontist. God worked a miracle for me. I might’ve had to wait weeks to get help. Instead I had help less than 24 hours after I made my initial call to my dentist.

I can’t help returning to the words of the old hymn commonly known as “God Will Take Care of You,” by Civilla Durfee Martin:

All you may need He will provide,

  God will take care of you!

Trust Him, and you will be satisfied,

  God will take care of you!

God will take care of you,

Through every day o’er all the way;

He will take care of you;

  God will take care of you!

Whatever you need this week—hopefully not a root canal—trust God to take care of you. He will. Sing this song, and remember God WILL take care of you.

Blessings!
