Title

I’m sure you’re a little sleepy today, since we sprang ahead on Sunday and ushered in daylight saving time.

It’s always an adjustment, especially when I’m starting to see dawn before 7 a.m. Now it’ll be closer to 8 a.m. But instead of sunset around 6:30, it’ll be around 7:30. Sigh.

I once heard an apt description of daylight saving time, supposedly attributed to a wise American Indian. He said something like, “Only a white man would cut a foot off bottom of a blanket, then sew it onto the top to make it longer.” Let’s put politically correct speech aside and ponder the wisdom of that for a moment. And have a hearty laugh.

I do appreciate more daylight at night, especially when I’m not able to squeeze in a walk before dinner. This is very rare, but it happens, and I really love having an extra hour of daylight on those nights.

There’s a lot going on in the greater Atlantic community this month. Maybe you’ll have time to attend one of these events.

There will be a Lenten luncheon on March 11, at 11 a.m. at Calvary United Methodist Church in Greenville with Pastor Diana White offering a message and Dawna Walsh providing music. The church is located at 44 S. Mercer Street, Greenville.

There will also be Lenten luncheons at these Conneaut Lake churches: High Street Community Street Church, on March 11, Trinity United Methodist on March 18, Our Lady Queen of the Americas on March 25, and Conneaut Lake Presbyterian on April 1. Meals start at noon, followed by a short devotional from a pastor or priest. The meal consists of homemade soups and sandwiches. Lunch is free, but you may give a donation.

Fallowfield United Methodist Church volunteers will make chicken pies again on March 14 starting at 8 a.m. The net profits will benefit missions.

Adamsville Presbyterian Church is hosting an emergency fund raiser auction and dinner on March 28. They will have a covered dish dinner at 6 p.m. followed by the auction at 7. This is a fun, exciting event, and is open to the public. Adamsville Presbyterian Church is located at 3979 Main Street, Adamsville. It’s right on Route 18 in the center of town.

Kennard United Methodist Church is hosting a lasagna dinner at 4 p.m. on March 28, as well.
