The Power of a Story

I have very exciting news: My novel, “Freeing Colt,” has been accepted for publication! I started writing this book last December after God laid it on my heart.

Here’s the back cover text: After surviving another brutal beating, Colt Beretta frees himself from the prison his father built around him. Summoning the courage to run away, Colt begins a healing journey as he crosses paths with people whose guidance and encouragement help him turn his life around. Therapy awakens a yearning for a career in music. As he pursues his dream, he meets people who influence him in unexpected ways, showing Colt everything happens for a reason, and proving there are no coincidences in life. I hope I captured your attention. (Wink.)

I’ve dreamt of writing a novel since I was 14. It took a few decades, but God got me here.

As of this writing I’m doing my final proofread. It should be published in February and available on booklocker.com (my publisher’s website), amazon.com, barnesandnoble.com, booksamillion.com, and Indigo.

As exciting and affirming as this is, I have to say I’m as excited about the lives God will touch and, I hope, change, through Colt’s story as I am about having my novel published.

I believe in the power of a story. Jesus does, too. Remember how he taught? He didn’t lecture; he told stories. Stories about a lost sheep, a prodigal son, a wise man who built his house upon a rock and a foolish man who built his house upon the sand.

Stories change lives. I’m sure Jesus’ listeners recognized themselves in his stories. Like the prodigal son, who among us has never strayed from God? God, symbolically represented by the father in the story, RUNS to his son when he returns home and proclaims a feast before his son even gets his whole apology out. That story’s been told for more than 2,000 years, and it’s as powerful today as it was the first time Jesus told it. It’s a story of love and forgiveness—a story about hope.

I pray Colt’s story infuses my readers with hope. I want readers to know spiritual, mental, and physical healing still happens in today’s world. God uses people to help us through our struggles, and when we hit rock bottom, he leads us to professionals and encouragers who can help us climb out of our trench.

I’m developing a website, christylindsayauthor.com, and have a Facebook page, called Christy Lindsay, Author. Please visit my Facebook page, like it, and follow me. You’ll receive updates as I learn them myself. If you’d like a teaser from the novel, I’ll email it to you. Just email me at This email address is being protected from spambots.
