2017 Fallowfield School Reunion

Welcome! I dropped by the annual Fallowfield School Reunion on October 7. It was a warm, sunny day for friends to reconnect at the Odd Fellows’ Hall in Atlantic. Former classmates enjoyed a meal of stuffed chicken breast or swiss steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, mixed vegetables, applesauce or coleslaw, and pie. Aunt Bea’s Resaurant catered.

They opted not to have a program this year so classmates could visit and catch up. They had plenty of old photos to look through. I noticed Raymond and Robert Sperry in class of 1939 photo. In 1942, C.Lee Sperry and his twin sons, Raymond and Robert, partnered up and began a farm that currently employs 65 people and has 1.2 million hens. Pretty impressive.

I counted 50 alumni chatting and enjoying their meal. Bronze mums were given to the oldest attendee, William Brooks, and the youngest, Sheryl Horne. William and Esther Brooks won a mum for being married the longest – 70 years. Bob and Ann Hall were awarded a mum for traveling the farthest (from Arizona) to attend.

Esther Brooks also won a mum for graduating in 1947, as the second-to-last class to graduate from East Fallowfield High School.

Louise Walker was awarded a mum for her years of service as treasurer and co-organizer of the reunion. She resigned her position this year.

A candle was lit in memory of alumni who passed away since last year’s reunion. They lost 14 friends since last October. Leo Osborn, Salena Sayles, Betty Neiman, Richard “Red” Williams, Geraldine M. (Skelton) Burleson, Karla Norris, Wilma Marie Skelton Dennis, (a 1948 graduate of East Fallowfield High School), Gerald Talbot, Lloyd Gerber, Arvilla M. (Billie) Lang, (a 1934 East Fallowfield High School graduate), Walter Brocklehurst, Arlan Horne, Merlin E. Williams, Raymond Thomas (Tom) McEntire, Jr., and Donnie Ellis were sadly missed.

Bonnie Hall Mihoci, Marlene Toth, and Ruth Ann Klingensmith Stevenson volunteered to replace outgoing president Nick White, secretary Anne Valesky, and treasurer, Louise Walker. Next year’s reunion will be held Saturday, October 6, 2018.

Fallowfield United Methodist Church is hosting a harvest party on Sunday, October 22. We’ll go for a hayride, roast hot dogs, eat homemade cookies, and the kids will paint pumpkins. It’s a lot of fun for both children and adults.

Trick-or-treat night is Thursday, October 26, 2017, from 6 to 8 p.m. in East Fallowfield Township and from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in West Fallowfield Township. Watch out for kids on the roads that night.

Have a wonderful week. Blessings!
