At the Crawford County Fair 2018

Percheron Draft Horse: A show-quality Percheron Draft Horse gelding, owned by Schlosser Farms of Saegertown, relaxes in his stall at the Crawford County Fair 2018, which was held recently. Schlosser Farms is a main-stay at the Fair, and the gelding is wearing their colors on his halter. The Schlosser's beautiful Percherons can be seen in the show ring every year in various classes.

…and on the eighth day God created the horse in perfect image, to romp, graze, gallop, play, and make manure wherever it darn well pleases, in divine grace.

It’s always fun to hang out at the horse barns and arenas at Fair. Admiring all the pretty horses and ponies trotting past and seeing fellow horsemen and friends once again, while sipping a lemonade at the rail, is my kind of afternoon.

Heading back to the campers after a class and the horse has been put up is also quite enjoyable.

Somehow getting an invitation to dinner from friends, because you look lonely and starving, is nothing short of a wonderful, delectable experience. Char-broiled steaks on the grill, sautéed zucchini, and corn on the cob, along with great company and a swig of Root Beer, makes any lost cowgirl feel right at ease. Who knew about the incredible foodstuffs that are stored in a camper or RV, and the cowboy who cooks it and serves it up?

Conversations drift from serious to silly to downright hilarious. Show ring tales from Fairs-gone-by, coupled with adventure and horseback camping trips out west, make for the best discussions and visits; sure glad I stopped by.

Top off the evening with someone pulling out a guitar and the cowgirls all singing lead, it’s no wonder you want to come back again next year.

Here are some horsey highlights, garnered from the rail for 2018. Enjoy.

Leaving an appropriate departure line suitable for Fair, with the immortal words of Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, “Happy Trails to You.”
