David Schaef update: (12/05/23)

I spoke with David yesterday. He had just arrived at the Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital in Erie.

There are still a couple of issues to resolve, and David is optimistic that Encompass has the skills. We didn't speak much of medicine and health, most of the conversation was about our subscribers and the Community News newspaper.

I was much encouraged by the tone of his voice and the idea he was interested in talking about Community News. So, he’s at that, “I want to get back to work” stage of healing.

He talked about his subscribers and a letter he is composing for them. He talked about how to proceed with the newspaper when he gets home.

He said he hopes to be home in 2 weeks.

Thank You all for your Love and Prayers and Well Wishes.

Sewer authority under fifire at meeting
Written by David Shaef

North Shenango Township held the August public meeting with Supervisors Dan Dickey, Eloise Settlemyre and Bob Waddingham in attendance. Secretary Donna Kean took the minutes and there were 30 citizens present. All stood to salute the American flag.

This public meeting was held outside on the front lawn of the municipal building due to over-capacity of the hall. Supervisor Dan Dickey asked for a moment of silence to pay respects for NST Road Crewman Christopher Dean, who passed away unexpectedly recently.

For Public Comment, a woman asked the Board whether citizens need permits to start building structures on their property or additions onto their homes.

Dickey answered the woman in the affirmative. All construction over 100 square feet requires permits, and permits are also required for electrical, occupancy, and sewage.

The woman then alleged that a resident of the Pymatuning Village Allotment at Seminole and Canoe Drives has been in non-compliance for over 5 years.

The woman inquired about setback limits to roadways and neighboring properties and she stated that a person purchased property in the allotment, but that no one could find the sewer hookup.

Dickey said he would have the proper public officials from the township look into this.

Another woman stood to speak to the Board in regard to the North and South Shenango Joint Municipal Sewage Authority.

She announced that she posted on Facebook, it created a ruckus, her intent being to make people aware of what is going on at the sewer authority.

She noted her main concern was with two board members, one of whom is the chairperson and who, she said runs the authority pretty much as her own business.

The woman said that the chair’s position is up at the end of this year and she encouraged supervisors to appoint someone new.

She said decisions made has run the sewer authority into the sewer.
