David Schaef update: (12/05/23)

I spoke with David yesterday. He had just arrived at the Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital in Erie.

There are still a couple of issues to resolve, and David is optimistic that Encompass has the skills. We didn't speak much of medicine and health, most of the conversation was about our subscribers and the Community News newspaper.

I was much encouraged by the tone of his voice and the idea he was interested in talking about Community News. So, he’s at that, “I want to get back to work” stage of healing.

He talked about his subscribers and a letter he is composing for them. He talked about how to proceed with the newspaper when he gets home.

He said he hopes to be home in 2 weeks.

Thank You all for your Love and Prayers and Well Wishes.

Tech school goal is add programs, offerings for all ages
Written by David Shaef

The Crawford County Career & Technical Center school board of directors adopted goals for the up coming school year in which leadership plans to create, expand, and promote registered pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeship programs with local business and industry partners, continue to research feasibility of student and adult interest in order to implement, expand, and/or add other programs, and continue to focus on development and expansion of credentialed adult evening programs and transition to partnering with more post-secondary institutions.

The CTC school board consists of 3 representatives from the Conneaut, Crawford Central and PennCREST school boards. The June 19 meeting saw 7 of the 9 members present with the three Conneaut representatives in attendance - Don Ellis, Jr., John Burnham and Tim McQuiston. Conneaut maintains the best attendance of the 3 districts.

CTC students have been accepted into electrical and precision machining pre-apprenticeship program just recently, the school one step away from being fully state approved for such, rare among CTC schools statewide.

Fencing, driveway, and parking are issues at Shabby’s Ice Cream Shack in Sadsbury
Written by Roseanne Staab

Sadsbury Township held the June public meeting with Supervisors Lyle Hoovler, Kevin VanHonk, and Bonnie Smith in attendance. Secretary Rose Mumau took the minutes and there were 13 citizens present. All stood to salute the American flag.

For Public Comment, a woman representing the Murdock Family addressed the Board in regard to Shabby’s Ice Cream Shack on Rt. 618, outside Conneaut Lake.

The woman, who is a member of the Murdock Family, alleges that Shabby’s Ice Cream Shack has been using a mutually-shared driveway with her and her family, at their house which sits next door to Shabby’s.

They are unhappy with Shabby’s and the current arrangements and developments there.

Shabby’s Ice Cream Shack is formerly known as DJ’s, a hot spot ice cream stand in its heyday with Conneaut Lake Park and next to Conneaut Lake Park VFD.

The woman stated her father resides in the residence year round and that they do not want commercial traffic on the driveway.

She said that she and her family had reached a temporary compromise with Shabby’s Ice Cream Shack in regard to the driveway, but she alleged that the owners of Shabby’s Ice Cream Shack, Brenda and David Cox, had not obtained any of the proper permitting for burning or demolition of a house that once stood where the new parking now sits.
