Stone Memorial Library
CONNEAUTVILLE - As we continue to move forward through the 21st century, with all of the technological changes and advancements we have seen, it would seem that the library has become less important. Libraries in the 21st century are more than just places that hold books, they are community centers where people can come together, socialize, learn, and grow. At Stone Memorial Library, we do, of course, love our books! We have many new acquisitions to browse through, along with the classics that everyone loves. But did you know that our library provides access to other materials and services as well? We provide access to e-books, computers, internet, WiFi, magazines, audio books, DVDs, and more.
Our weekly children’s Story Time is back! Bring the kids every Tuesday morning, anytime after 10 am for a bit of socializing, playtime, crafting, interactive storytelling, and snacks, all put together by Julie Klingler. Each week we explore a new theme that is sure to please.
Our weekly Crochet and Knitting Club meets weekly on Thursdays at 10 am. All skill levels are welcome to join in, socialize, and stitch! We also have a monthly book club that meets on the third Thursday of the month.
We are looking forward to offering other programs in the future for our patrons to help bring our community and its families together. If there is an item, program, or service that you would like to see in our library, please let us know. We would like to express our gratitude to those who donated to Stone Memorial Library during this year’s Crawford Gives campaign! Through Crawford Gives, a 24-hour online donation campaign, we were able to raise $850.02, all of which is eligible for prorated matching from the Crawford Gives organization. These donated funds will be put towards building maintenance, programming, and the acquisition of new materials. Thank you!
It is possible to help out Stone Memorial Library in other ways too. Volunteers are always appreciated and helpful, and volunteering can be a great way to enrich one’s life at any stage. We are also always willing to accept cash donations, or even the donations of your unwanted books. If the book does not end up in our collection, we will put it toward our next book sale.
Memorials are also another way that you can give to our library, and they are a kind and thoughtful way to honor the life and spirit of a loved one. Memorial books help our collection reflect the lives of those who have lived and worked in our community, and helps that person’s story live on long after their passing, even if just in a story that they enjoyed.

Springboro Library happenings
- A Gold Level Library -
SPRINGBORO - Starting November 1, 2019, “SPL” will be open extra hours. We are adding Fridays to our schedule! And every weekday, the library will open at noon.
We have scheduled extra craft workshops for the holiday season. Through December, our workshops will be on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month. Most recent workshops were a paint workshop on October 3rd and a scrapbooking workshop on October 17. Sign ups for the November workshops will be at the main desk. Join us for mandala rocks and the ever popular bead workshop.
Anyone can participate in our workshops. We encourage all to become library patrons. However, our services are here for the community and we welcome all to our workshops.
Our next workshop will be on November 7th @ 6 pm. There will be a kid’s craft as well. Ask for the sign up sheet or call our main desk. You can also find information on our Facebook page or on our website.
We also do kids crafts every Saturday @ 11 am, following pre-school story hour. Kids learn to participate, ask questions and share adult attention. Our “Kids Create” hour is usually a fun craft or activity that teaches basic skills for school such as using scissors and glue. Our experienced, pre-k teacher reads a seasonal story and does a seasonal craft that kids can take home or possibly put in one of our display windows.
Parents can enjoy the library while their little ones learn and play. We offer free Wi-Fi and our four computers are available to patrons. The library also subscribes to 25 different magazines as well as 2 newspapers. And check out our CD collection for your favorite music. You can also spend an hour going through our hobby sections in the stacks or check out the latest in fiction and non-fiction.

If you are interested in helping with our holiday fund raising, please contact our Director, Joy. Our annual Soup and Sandwich Supper is coming up. Every year we offer a break to our community on the day before Thanksgiving. For a small donation, you can enjoy home made soups, sandwiches and pies. We also offer desserts to purchase and take home as well as crafts for the holidays made by locals. Call us if you would like to donate a pie!
Local groups or businesses can get some free publicity through December by decorating a tree for our holiday window displays. We welcome scout troupes as well. Bring your creativity and your ornaments. We provide the tree and the lights and put a sign under your tree with the name of the group or business. The decorating starts on the day after Thanksgiving. Reserve your tree now by stopping in or calling our director.
You can also place a memorial or dedication in a book. Memorials are placed in the front of your chosen book. Or a name plate can be put on our beautiful oak wall. This is a great way to honor a love one, receive a tax write off or just do something great for your neighborhood. Some of our funding goes to implementing new programs for community members and patrons of all ages. And of course for buying new books for our loyal readers!
The new books on display this week include books by Stuart Woods with “Contraband”, Carolyn Brown with “The Empty Nester”, and Craig Johnson with “Land of Wolves”. We just got new movies in as well! Stop by to check out our selection.
And we have a new rotating large print collection. Every few months, participating libraries swap out large print books. We just got collection #13 on October 21st. These collections include a variety of Fiction and Non-fiction best sellers from today and yesterday.
Library hours are: Monday through Thursday, 12p.m. - 7:30p.m, Fridays, 12pm-4pm and Saturday hours are 9am - 4pm.
Are you interested in furthering your education? Check out “Universal Class” which has over 500 subjects for career preparation or favorite hobbies! You can earn free CE credits with “Universal Class”. There is even a course in Genealogy. All you need is a library card. And you can get one for free!
