God’s Got It Under Control

My church family and I went to Waldameer last Wednesday. God gave us gorgeous weather. It was cloudy at first, but the sun broke through around noon. The sun shone the rest of the day. We left around 5:30 p.m. Just as I drove past Kearsarge on I-79 south, the clouds turned slate gray. A few miles down the road, rain started pelting our car. After ten minutes, it stopped. I realized we’d left the park just in time. If we’d have stayed at Waldameer another half hour, we’d have gotten drenched.

We didn’t know what was coming. The sky looked clear when we left. But God knew.

Let me give you a bigger example of God timing things just right. In the autumn of 2003, I found out I was going to have a baby. I felt God urging me to move home. I told my parents my husband and I were back to the Atlantic community on a Wednesday in November 2003.

I spent that weekend with my parents. After church, I drove back to Mom and Dad’s house for lunch. When they walked into the kitchen, their eyes were wide and they had stricken looks on their faces. I wondered if something awful had happened. Dad told me he had news, and I’d better sit down. Uh-oh.

But it wasn’t bad. Their news blew my mind: Friends from church were selling their house in Jamestown. It was the perfect house for a young family and had everything on my wish list: a basement, garage, and at least one acre of land. Actually, it has two and a half acres. We arranged to see the house that afternoon and bought it on a handshake before we left. We signed the papers on March 12, 2004. My daughter was born April 28, 2004.

I still feel a little awestruck when I think of all that had to fall into place in order to move home and buy my house. If I weren’t pregnant, my husband and I wouldn’t have been in the market for a house. If God hadn’t urged both me to move home and our friends to sell their house, we couldn’t have bought it.

But God had it all under control. He knows the end from the beginning. Just as he knew a storm lay ahead on I-79 last Wednesday, he knew he had the perfect house for my family all lined up.

Remember: He knows what lies ahead for all of us. Isaiah 46:9-10 reads, “I am God, and there is none like Me, /Declaring the end from the beginning, /And from ancient times things that are not yet done.” (NKJV) So whatever lies ahead, we know God’s got it all under control today, before it even happens.
