Gearing up for the Crawford County Fair

Welcome to another week!

We’ve certainly had good grass growing weather in the Atlantic Community lately: lots of rain and sunshine.

Produce stands are filling up with zucchini, summer squash, sweet corn, onions, potatoes, and early tomatoes. I’ve had sweet corn once this month. It’s a great summertime treat.

Make, Bake, and Create 4-H group of Adamsville visited Lighthouse Alpacas in Jamestown on Saturday, August 9. This is the group’s first field trip. The group had its final regular meeting of the year on Saturday, July 26.

Leaders judged the kids’ projects at the final meeting. All 4-Hers may enter their projects at the Crawford County and Jamestown Fairs.

I hope you will have time to stop by the Home Show and Exhibit Buildings at the fair to see their projects.

Speaking of the fair, Fallowfield United Methodist Church is in full swing with its pie making project. This is my home church.

Volunteers made and froze rhubarb, strawberry rhubarb, Dutch apple, and apple pies on Monday, August 3. We had a great crew and made a lot of pies.

Our final pre-fair bake is Monday, August 11, at 5 p.m. We will make peach pies that night. If you’d like to see how we make our pies, please join us. We’d love to have your help.

We surely need support from our friends and neighbors. We can’t pull off this project without our faithful volunteer bakers, serves, and cooks. Every year friends from Kennard United Methodist, Adamsville Presbyterian, Atlantic Community, Trinity United Methodist, Faith United Methodist, and many other churches help us make our pies.

If you’d like to sign up for the pie bakes or shifts at the fair booth, you can choose from one of three methods.

It’s so much fun to go to the fair. Maybe you’ll stop by for a piece of pie and a sandwich at Fallowfield’s booth. Hope to see you there.

Have a wonderful week. Blessings!
