David Schaef update: (12/05/23)

I spoke with David yesterday. He had just arrived at the Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital in Erie.

There are still a couple of issues to resolve, and David is optimistic that Encompass has the skills. We didn't speak much of medicine and health, most of the conversation was about our subscribers and the Community News newspaper.

I was much encouraged by the tone of his voice and the idea he was interested in talking about Community News. So, he’s at that, “I want to get back to work” stage of healing.

He talked about his subscribers and a letter he is composing for them. He talked about how to proceed with the newspaper when he gets home.

He said he hopes to be home in 2 weeks.

Thank You all for your Love and Prayers and Well Wishes.

Sadsbury leaders hear mining request
Written by Roseanne Staab

Sadsbury Township supervisors held their February public meeting with Supervisor Kevin VanHonk leading the salute to the American Flag. Supervisors Lyle Hoovler and Bonnie Smith were in attendance and Secretary Rose Mumau took the minutes. There were three citizens present.

The meeting minutes for January were approved, along with minutes from the Robert Hanna Conditional Use Public Hearing.

For Public Comment, representatives from Lakeland Sand and Gravel were present to talk to the Board about obtaining a mining permit.

They wish to extend the mining of sand and gravel in the area located next to current operations.

Solicitor R. Charles Thomas told the men that there are no “special exemptions” permitted under the newer Township Ordinance, since the property is located within the Conneaut Corridor.

The men would have to approach the Sadsbury Zoning Hearing Board and apply for a Zoning Amendment and a public hearing. Mining was permitted in the previous Ordinance.
