Stone Memorial Library

CONNEAUTVILLE - As we continue to move forward through the 21st century, with all of the technological changes and advancements we have seen, it would seem that the library has become less important. Libraries in the 21st century are more than just places that hold books, they are community centers where people can come together, socialize, learn, and grow. At Stone Memorial Library, we do, of course, love our books! We have many new acquisitions to browse through, along with the classics that everyone loves. But did you know that our library provides access to other materials and services as well? We provide access to e-books, computers, internet, WiFi, magazines, audio books, DVDs, and more.

Our weekly children’s Story Time is every Tuesday morning, anytime after 10 am for a bit of socializing, playtime, crafting, interactive storytelling, and snacks, all put together by Julie Klingler. Each week we explore a new theme that is sure to please.

Our weekly Crochet and Knitting Club meets on Thursdays at 10 am. All skill levels are welcome to join in, socialize, and stitch! We also have a monthly book club that meets on the third Thursday of the month.

We are looking forward to offering other programs in the future for our patrons to help bring our community and its families together. If there is an item, program, or service that you would like to see in our library, please let us know. Otherwise, do feel free to stop by and visit us when you can, and bid a warm hello to our new director, Lauren Lowery.

It is possible to help out Stone Memorial Library in many ways too. Volunteers are always appreciated and helpful, and volunteering can be a great way to enrich one’s life at any stage. We are also always willing to accept cash donations, or even the donations of your unwanted books. If the book does not end up in our collection, we will put it toward our next book sale.

Memorials are also another way that you can give to our library, and they are a kind and thoughtful way to honor the life and spirit of a loved one. Memorial books help our collection reflect the lives of those who have lived and worked in our community, and helps that person’s story live on long after their passing, even if just in a story that they enjoyed.

We also participate in the Amazon Smile program. Through Amazon Smile, a portion of the purchases that you make on Amazon gets donated to a charity of your choice. If you visit http://smile.amazon.com, you can connect your Amazon account to us – James A. Stone Memorial Library Association in Conneautville PA!

The Stone Memorial Library is located at 1101 Main St., Conneautville. Our hours are Monday & Friday, 1 – 6 pm, Tuesday & Thursday, 9am – 6pm, and Saturdays 9am – 4pm. Ccontact us via phone / fax at 814-587-2142.

Springboro Library happenings

- A Gold Level Library -

SPRINGBORO - We are now open on Fridays!! Our hours have changed to give more time to our locals. Our weekday hours now begin at noon Monday through Friday. New hours are posted at the door, on Facebook and on our website (as well as here in our favorite newspaper).

Just received another shipment of new books! Although we are not decorating for Christmas until after Thanksgiving, we’ve started to get some new holiday books in for December. “SPL” is featuring all the November holidays now. We have books on display for National Native American Heritage month and tons of books for Thanksgiving. And if you are already in the mood for Christmas Books, we have holiday craft books, cook books and holiday fiction.

Some of the new books in this week include: Lee Child’s “Blue Moon”, Michael Crighton’s “The Andromeda Evolution”, Laura Child’s “Mumbo Gumbo Murder” and Colleen Coble’s “Strands of Truth”.

We just got collection #4 of the rotating Playaways in. If you have never tried “playaways”, they are a nice alternative to books . Just plug in your head phones and settle in somewhere comfortable to listen. They are for all ages and include fiction and non-fiction.

Our annual Soup & Sandwich Supper is on Wednesday, November 27th from 4:30 pm -7:30 pm. Anyone looking for a break the day before Thanksgiving or just looking for a great home cooked meal can join us for a small donation of $7.00. The offerings include locally made soups, sandwiches and pies! We also sell locally made crafts. Anyone who would like to donate a pie or craft to benefit the library, may sign up at the main desk or call us.

We also offer Holiday trees to decorate for local groups or businesses. We welcome scout troupes as well. Every year, our four, large, display windows light up this little town. Get creative and receive some free publicity. We put a sign under your tree with the name of the group or business. All you have to bring are your ornaments. We provide the tree and your choice of lights. Give us a call to let us know when you would like to come. There are 3 smaller green trees left. Reserve your tree now by stopping in or calling our director. Decorating starts the day after Thanksgiving.

We’d like to thank all the community members who donated to this year’s fund drive! Every Fall we send out flyers. But patrons can make donations anytime. We also hold fund raising dinners and book sales throughout the year.

You can also place a memorial or dedication in a book. Memorials are placed in the front of your chosen book. Or a name plate can be put on our beautiful oak wall. This is a great way to honor a love one, receive a tax write off or just do something great for your neighborhood. Some of our funding goes to implementing new programs for community members and patrons of all ages. And of course for buying new books for our loyal readers!

Thanks to all who came for our most recent craft workshop. We always enjoy a painting workshop. We enjoyed painting Mandala Rocks at out last one.

Our craft workshops will continue on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of every month. The attendance has been fantastic! Come on in and sign up for the next one on December 5th. We will be doing a card craft.

Library hours are: Monday through Thursday, 12 pm. - 7:30 pm, Fridays, 12 pm - 4 pm and Saturday 9 am - 4 pm.
