Welcome to 2017!

Welcome to 2017!

I hope you had nice Christmas and New Year’s celebrations.

Fallowfield United Methodist Church members went Christmas caroling on December 19. We visited eight people and sang the old favorites, such as “Silent Night,” “Joy to the World,” and “We Wish You A Merry Christmas.”

We gave fruit baskets to those we visited and almost all of the people we sang to shared candy or cookies with us. It was a perfectly Christmassy night: the ground was snow-covered and it was frosty-cold outside.

We had a full sanctuary at Fallowfield on Christmas Eve. Our Pastor, Larry Corner, played his accordion and led us in song. We sang practically every Christmas carol I know, along with “O Holy Night.” We also had special music, including a guitar and organ rendition of “Mary, Did You Know?”

We concluded the service by singing “Silent Night.”

This year we held battery-operated candles instead of regular candles as we sang this last hymn. It was a smart move. No one got burned from hot wax, and it saved our custodians from having to clean wax off the carpet.

If you’re looking to start the New Year by attending church, please consider coming to Fallowfield. We’re changing our worship service from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. for the month of January to see if the later hour will encourage families to attend. If you don’t have a church, please join us.

In this season when we think about Baby Jesus, it is also important to remember the babies and young children in our community. If you have or know someone who has a newborn or young child, there is a new opportunity to help clothe him or her. Linesville Presbyterian Church is hosting The Baby Exchange in the church’s basement on Saturday, January 7, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Free baby clothes will be available and monetary donations will be accepted. This will be a time of fellowship for mothers. For more information, contact Geula Love at (814) 683-4653.

East and West Fallowfield Townships will have their annual reorganization meetings on January 3. These state-mandated meetings are very informative. You’ll learn the names of all the people who hold offices and supervise township business. You’ll also have the chance to meet your township supervisors and secretary/treasurer. I highly recommend attending. West Fallowfield Township’s meeting will be at 9 a.m. and East Fallowfield Township’s meeting will be at 5 p.m.

Have a wonderful week. Blessings!
