Did I Really See Snow?

Welcome to another week! I hope you’re still enjoying the beautiful leaves.

How ‘bout that snow on October 17 and 18? I stopped and stared last Sunday morning as I looked out my window. Was I really seeing snow on my grass in mid-October? Mercifully it was in the upper sixties by Tuesday. It’s weird to wear a winter coat, hat, and gloves one morning and wear shorts the next afternoon. But that’s Pennsylvania for you.

A stalwart group braved the snow, wind, and rain to attend Fallowfield United Methodist Church’s Hallelujah party on October 18. Kids painted pumpkins, and we all enjoyed fire-roasted hot dogs and a hayride. Our meal included sauerkraut, chips, homemade cookies, cider, hot chocolate, and coffee.

You know I’m partial, but I think we have the market cornered on baking here in the Atlantic community. I devoured two pumpkin-raisin-walnut glazed bar cookies, a candy corn-shaped sugar cookie, and a peanut butter cookie. I could’ve eaten half a dozen more. Thankfully, I find it embarrassing to gorge myself in front of watching eyes.

Many parents, grandparents, and hayride lovers came to the party. We rode down Leach Road to Atlantic Road and turned around at Kibbler Road. It was a short, but fun, ride. It was so doggone cold that it made sense to turn around early, but I would’ve ridden for an hour if I could’ve. I love hayrides. They’re so fun and nostalgic. I feel happy riding a hay wagon, as if time has stopped and all’s right with the world.

Expect to see costumed kids roaming around the Atlantic community on Thursday, October 29. Trick-or-treating is from 6 to 8 p.m. in East Fallowfield and from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in West Fallowfield. Please remember to turn on your porch light and keep your eyes peeled for kids on the roads if you’re driving.

I can’t believe I’m writing this, but it’s time to turn your clocks back. Saturday, October 31, is our last day of daylight savings time. The good news is it’ll be daylight by 6:30 a.m. The bad news is it’ll be dark by 5:30 p.m. Ah!

Kennard United Methodist is hosting a fall craft show on Saturday, November 7, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Hoagies, soup, and baked goods will be for sale, too. It’ll be held in the church’s fellowship hall, adjacent to the church. I haven’t been to one of their craft shows since April, but when I was there they had handmade jewelry, hand carved wood plaques, real maple syrup, and the like.

Have a wonderful week. Blessings!
