It’s Fair Week in Fallowfield

Welcome to fair week! All I can think about is pie.

Fallowfield United Methodist Church’s volunteer bakers made 50 strawberry-rhubarb pies and 146 crusts on August 17. If my math is correct we made 846 pies and crusts to get a head start for the Crawford County Fair.

If you’re interested in helping bake pies at the church or work at the fair booth, visit www.signupgenius.com or www.fallowfieldumc.com or call (814) 382-3124 and ask for Joyce. You can also just show up at the church or the pie booth. If you don’t know where we are, the church is on Leach Road in Atlantic. The fair booth is located near Gate 1 at the fair grounds, across from the Home Show Buildings.

As usual, pie bakes are at 6 a.m., 10:30 a.m., and 3 p.m. Fair shifts are from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. till close. The booth usually closes between 9 and 10 p.m., depending on the crowds.

Could you please pray for us? Every year we lose experienced bakers who’ve worked at bakes and at the booth since we started this project in 1956. They are tough to replace. Former members, children and grandchildren of former and past members still help us out. We couldn’t do this project without help from other churches.

I stopped by Atlantic’s Street Fair on Friday, August 14. My kids played the ring toss, jumped in the bouncy house, and tried to dunk a fireman at the dunking booth. My daughter had her face and nails painted and my son had a snake painted on his arm. The face and nail artists are very talented. There was a coloring contest and several other games available for kids. A food stand offered pop, water, chips, cheeseburgers, funnel cakes, and other fair-type foods.

The Atlantic Community Church’s car cruise-in looked like a success. I snapped two pictures of a cherry red 1963 Chevy Nova. The owner, Brenda Fulmer, has owned the car for 13 years. The car was rebuilt from the ground up. Pretty cool.

I will be baking pies every day this week and I won’t have time to write my column for August 31. I promise to give you all the details about Fallowfield’s fair week in the Sept. 7, edition.

Have a wonderful week. Blessings!
