Atlantic Community Days

Welcome to another week! Hasn’t the sunshine felt wonderful? I always feel better when the sky is blue. Now, don’t get me wrong – I’m not a fan of 91-degree days. Last Tuesday and Wednesday were stinkin’ hot. But hot days force me to walk early in the morning and finish outside chores before it gets too hot. That makes me feel productive, so heat does serve a purpose sometimes.

Fallowfield United Methodist Church volunteer bakers made 201 Dutch apple, plain apple, and strawberry-rhubarb pies on July 27. We’d only planned on making 130 pies. We had a great crew and everyone worked so well together that we finished the job in two hours. This experience reminds me of Psalm 133:1 -- “How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity!” (NIV)

If you’d like to learn more about pie making, come to Fallowfield United Methodist on Monday, August 3, at 5 p.m. We will have pie makes on August 10 and 17, too.

But making pies isn’t all that’s going on in Atlantic in August.

Fallowfield Fire & Rescue is hosting its second annual Community Days event on Friday, August 14, and Saturday, August 15. They are working in conjunction with Atlantic Community Church’s car cruise-in and pig roast.

It sounds like a blowout for families. The fun lasts from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. on August 14. Saturday’s festivities begin at 10 a.m. on August 15 and end at 7 p.m.

If you’re unfamiliar with Atlantic, take Route 18 through Adamsville and turn left onto Atlantic Road. It’s directly across from Rocky Glen Road. You’ll cross two railroad tracks. The fire hall is on the left. Atlantic Community Church is roughly one city block up the road on the left. That’s a laugh – can you imagine Atlantic divided into city blocks?

Both days will feature carnival games for the kids with top prizes ranging from $10 to $35 in value. They’re also providing a bouncy house. I love these things. My hamstrings aren’t what they used to be, but man, these things are fun.

Everyone has a chance to dunk firefighters, including the chief, at a dunking booth, too.

Car cruise-in registration begins at 10 a.m. on the 15th at Atlantic Community Church.

Saturday’s Community Days events include a pet parade at noon, a corn hole tournament at 1 p.m., and lawn bingo at 2 p.m.

To cap it off, they’re raffling an ATV with a plow and winch and a 2015 Polaris Sportsman ETX 400. The winners will be announced November 14, 2015. I imagine they’ll sell hundreds of tickets for these babies.

Have a wonderful week. Blessings!
