Daddy

Welcome to another week!

It’s auction season in the Atlantic community. The annual Amish school auction will be Saturday, June 27, at the Mullet Farm on Atlantic Road. It’s just past the Atlantic Community Church on the left. You can’t miss it on auction day. Serious auction hunters arrive between 6:30 and 7:30 a.m. Buggies, plants, trees, quilts, horses, non-electric appliances, and lots of other stuff will be up for auction. The profits benefit the Atlantic Amish schools.

Come hungry. You can expect homemade donuts, pizza, sausage sandwiches, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, barbeque chicken, and homemade ice cream.

If you want to bid on items, it’s wise to get there early. I made the mistake of waiting until 10 a.m. and almost all of the household items were sold. So were all the breakfast foods. Bummer.

Father’s Day was Sunday, June 21. I know Father’s Day can be painful for people whose dads have passed away or who were not good to them. I know a couple men who even struggled with the idea of loving God because Jesus calls Him His Father in the Bible. The title “father” reminds some men of a negative influence in their lives.

Jesus called His Father “Abba” from the cross. “Abba” is Aramaic for “Daddy.” If Jesus called his father Daddy, it shows the kind of relationship he had (and has) with his father.

I’ve heard a few adults call their fathers “daddy.” It’s very touching. So what’s the difference between a father and a daddy? I think it’s all about the level of dedication and availability a father offers his children. A daddy connects on an emotional level with his kids. If you think of your father as your daddy, it means you’ve observed your father love your mother and you sacrificially. You’ve watched him set a good example in his work ethic and be a fair disciplinarian. You remember how he taught you how to do things. Hopefully he set a good example by attending church with your family.

If you were or are blessed with a daddy, give him a big hug and thank him for being the kind of man whom you can admire and brag about.

Have a wonderful week. Blessings!
