Signs of Spring

Welcome to another week. Did last week’s rain and humidity bring you down? It felt like December weather. I’ll be glad to see the sun again.

I have seen signs of spring, though. My daffodils look ready to bloom any day. I haven’t checked my hyacinths in a few days, but they should pop soon, too.

Hanks, Eddie’s Footlongs, and Casey’s Ice Cream & Candies reopened between March 10 and 28. Whoo-hoo! It’s officially spring in the Atlantic community when these places reopen.

Kennard United Methodist Church hosted its final spring community breakfast on Saturday, April 11.

If you like crafts and homemade food, schedule a visit to Kennard United Methodist on Saturday, April 18. You can buy crafts, soup, baked goods, and hoagies. Doors open at 8 a.m.

Fallowfield United Methodist is hosting a hymn sing at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 19. You are welcome to join us. I love hymns. I listen to Air1 Radio and KLOVE, too, but I find depth and richness in the lyrics of old hymns.

This reminds me of a mistake I made in my March 23 column. I wrote that Palm Sunday hymns make my spirit “sour.” I meant to write “soar.” Sorry about that.

North Salem United Methodist Church is hosting a community 55+ luncheon on Thursday, April 23, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in their fellowship room. They will collect donations to cover the price of the meal.

Fallowfield United Methodist Church has begun planning one of its defining outreach programs: Vacation Bible School (VBS). This year it will be held June 22-26 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. I’ve never attended a church where children are more welcome than Fallowfield.

Every summer between 70 and 100 local kids come to VBS. Please invite your children, grandchildren, and neighbors. Expect Bible lessons, crafts, pop-style Christian music, outdoor games, and snacks. This high-energy program may be the only way some children ever learn about Jesus.

Have a wonderful week. Blessings!
