Minor Players in Major Dramas

Welcome to another week! If you’ve been in the Atlantic community lately, you’ve probably seen the rubble from the Adamsville fire. I learned at this month’s West Fallowfield Township meeting that Fallowfield Fire and Rescue holds meetings every second Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. Pumphouse 45 also has meetings every third Tuesday of the month. Both meetings are open to the public and held at the Fallowfield Fire and Rescue building.

Spring has definitely arrived. You might be looking for a fun way to spend a Saturday. Why not check out Kennard United Methodist Church’s spring craft show? It will be held on Saturday, April 18, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the fellowship hall. Baked goods and soup will be available, too.

I still have Easter on my mind. I’ve been thinking about a minor character in the greatest story ever told. The day before he went to the cross, Jesus told his disciples to follow a man carrying a water jar into his house. They were to ask him, “Where is the room where my disciples and I will eat the Passover meal?” (Mark 14:14 TEV) The Bible says the room was already prepared.

The story is cool on a number of levels. First, it shows Jesus’ omniscience: he knew a man had prepared a room for him, and that he was carrying a jar of water. Secondly, it shows the man’s obedience. We don’t know if he normally drew water from the well or if he sent someone else. Typically women drew water in Bible times (see John 4 and Genesis 18). Did the Holy Spirit prompt him to prepare the room, too, or was he getting it ready for his own family’s Passover meal?

The Bible doesn’t answer these questions. But it reminds me that we can be minor players in major Christian dramas when we follow the Holy Spirit’s inner promptings.

Have a wonderful week. Blessings!
