Weakness

Welcome to another week! How about this weather? I can’t believe it’s warmed up so much. On March 6, it was negative one degree at 8 a.m. As of this writing it’s 39 degrees outside.

I think everyone’s enjoying the warmer weather and melting snow. It’s a miracle that we’ve had no flooding despite two-plus feet of snow melting.

Weakness is on my mind today because my kids, husband, and I all battled a weird virus that struck each of us in different ways. The one consistent symptom was physical weakness. I spent Wednesday in bed, too weak to do much of anything. I’m so grateful to God for a husband who will bring me tea and toast, help the kids with their homework, and make dinner.

Most people have felt weak at some point in their lives. Maybe they felt weak after an illness or car accident. Starting a weight training program might remind us how puny our (or should I say “my?”) muscles are. Watching a family relationship fall apart renders us helpless. Struggling with sin or trusting in God makes us feel feeble.

I’ve experienced weakness in most of these areas. Paul wrote, “For when I am weak, then I am strong” (2 Corinthians 12:10 NIV). He battled what he called his “thorn in the flesh.” He never identified his thorn. Some believe it was an eye ailment. Who knows? He was beaten, stoned, shipwrecked, and suffered other brutal punishments because he told people about Jesus.

What is your weakness? Is it something God can help you with? Of course it is. God can do anything he wants. He can and will help you if you ask him to.

Lenten services continue on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. at Fallowfield United Methodist Church.

Calvary United Methodist Church in Greenville is hosting Lenten luncheons on Wednesdays at 11:30 a.m. Expect a speaker, lunch, and entertainment. The last luncheon will be on March 25.

Blessings!
