November Activities in Atlantic

Sorry I missed you last week. A sinus infection kept me in bed for five days.

All the leaves have fallen, but we had the most beautiful and lengthy fall I can remember. The weather in September and October was exquisite.

My children trick-or-treated at friends’ and families’ homes in East and West Fallowfield Townships last Thursday night. Some of these folks have been friends of my family for three generations: no need to inspect candy when I get home.

I hope you voted last Tuesday. It’s a blessing to have the freedom to choose our own representatives.

Speaking of blessings, Veterans Day is Tuesday, November 11. I hope you will thank a veteran for serving our country and protecting our freedoms.

Did your church celebrate All Saint’s Day Sunday, Nov. 2? Pastor Dave Bell read the names of all the saints (Christians) who died in the past twelve months. Atlantic lost Jane Campbell, Tom Shearer, and Sylvia Wallace.

Kennard United Methodist Church hosted its annual Christmas craft and bake sale on Saturday, November 1. Bakers from Kennard and Fallowfield United Methodist helped Janice Williams bake her delicious cinnamon rolls, fresh bread and pies.

Fallowfield United Methodist Church is collecting shoe box gifts for Samaritan’s Purse. Since the project began in 1993, 113 million children have received gift boxes.

Recipients have the chance to enroll in a program called “The Greatest Journey.” This twelve-week course introduces children to Jesus and is taught by members of their local Christian community. The message children receive from poverty is that they’re worthless. Jesus makes them feel like someone important for the first time in their lives.

We will dedicate the boxes on Sunday, November 16.

Kennard United Methodist is hosting a reunion open house on Saturday, November 20, from 1 to 4:30 p.m. in their fellowship hall.

If you remember life during the 1940s, ‘50s, and ‘60s, you are encouraged to bring photos and memories to the open house. It will be a day filled with nostalgia and laughter, I’m sure. Light refreshments will be available.

The annual Fellowship Supper at Fallowfield United Methodist will be Sunday, November 23, at 6 p.m. If you helped us make pies or sell them at the Crawford County Fair this year, you are invited. The Slim Brothers will perform after the meal. It’s always a fantastic feast.

Dressed in Faith ministry of Fallowfield United Methodist welcomes donations of homecoming and prom dresses in all colors and styles. They also accept jewelry and dress shoes. These gifts enable girls from all area schools to borrow evening wear for their special events. If you have a donation, please call Barb Griggs at (814) 382-2560, Deanna Griggs-Byler at (814) 573-6639, or Lois Amos at (814) 382-2504. Donations are accepted anytime.

Have a wonderful week. Blessings!
