Hallelujah Party

Welcome to another week!

Fallowfield United Methodist Church held its annual Hallelujah party on Saturday, October 18, in the church’s fellowship hall. The cold rain kept us inside, but several men braved the weather to roast hot dogs over a bonfire.

Twelve children attended the party. They painted pumpkins, putting a lot of thought and creativity into each one. They devoured doughnuts off of strings without touching them with their hands. This is harder than it sounds.

The highlight for onlookers was watching the kids bob for apples. They got soaked while dunking their heads into the washtub. One boy plunged shoulder deep to get his apple.

We had roasted hot dogs, chips, and homemade cookies for dinner, along with apple cider, hot chocolate, and chocolate milk. It was a whole lot of fun.

October 19, was Laity Sunday at Fallowfield United Methodist. “Laity” means church members, as opposed to the preacher. Laity directed all parts of the service.

Allen Jacobs preached the sermon. He encouraged us to pray for the children of our church, our pastor, choir, Sunday school teachers, and others inside the church.

He urged us to pray for our country, too. He challenged us to invite one person to church this week and to tell one person about Jesus.

Allen also brought in one of his pigeons as a visual aid. Sin offerings made during Jesus’ time included turtledoves. He reminded us that thanks to Jesus sacrificing himself for our sins, we no longer have to kill animals so God will forgive our sins.

He concluded his message with a toe-tappin’ song, “God Can Save Anybody, Anywhere, Anytime.” I saw lots of smiles as people clapped in rhythm to the song.

Don’t forget that Kennard United Methodist Church is planning a Christmas craft and bake sale on Saturday, November 1, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Get there early for Janice Williams’ scrumptious cinnamon rolls.

You can also attend Novemberfest on Saturday, November 1, at Old Salem United Methodist Church. The event is held in their Fellowship Hall and includes Christmas crafts, collectables, and unique gifts. Baked goods and soup will be for sale.

Trick-or-Treat is on October 30 from 6 to 8 p.m. in East Fallowfield Township and from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. in West Fallowfield Township. Please drive slowly and watch for children that night.

Have a wonderful week. Blessings!
