Bakers and Seamstresses Steal the Show

Atlantic Community

Welcome to another week. Did you make it to the Jamestown Fair? I love this fair. It’s close by, there’s no entrance fee, parking is cheap -- $1.00, the food is great, and I get to see lots of my friends and neighbors. I love looking at the quilts, vegetables, artwork, baked goods, and handicrafts. It’s neat to see local livestock, too.

Seven members of Adamsville’s Make, Bake, and Create 4-H group entered sewing projects, scrapbooks, and baked goods. Leaders Sharon Shrock and Barb Saulsbery co-chair the Needlework Department. Both are expert seamstresses. Sharon is also an exceptional baker.

I’ve got to brag about the 4-H girls. This is the group’s first year. My daughter, Beth, won a blue ribbon for her Texas sheet cake. Elaina Gerber got second place for her knitted headband. Sara Stevenson won first place for her tote bag, Samantha Stevenson won third place for her tote bag, and Beth Lindsay won fourth place for her tote bag.

Make, Bake and Create earned third place for its exhibit.

Two other 4-H girls won ribbons for brownies and a tote bag.

Janice Williams of Atlantic won first place and Best of Show for her cinnamon rolls. If you’ve ever eaten any of these at Kennard United Methodist Church’s annual bake and craft sale you’ll know why. They are delicious. Janice also earned a blue ribbon for her white dinner rolls and white bread.

Sharon Shrock won blue ribbons for her spice chiffon cake, apple nut bread, sour cream coffee cake, oatmeal chocolate cupcakes, pineapple upside down cake, mint swirl bars, rhubarb brownies, and no-bake cookies. Her no-bake cookie was shaped like a red apple with a green leaf. It also considered for Best of Show award winners.

Sharon also won second place for her chocolate cupcakes, one hour dinner rolls, pineapple-carrot bread, chocolate angel food cake (for the angel food cake contest), and peanut butter fudge.

Jean Groce` of Hartstown won first place for her muffin.

In sewing, Barb Saulsbery won first place for her quilt, second place for her quilted table runner, and first place for her knitted slipper socks.

Virginia Shields of Atlantic won a blue ribbon for her quilted wall hanging.

Jean Groce` won second place for her quilt.

Atlantic Grange #344 earned first place for its display.

I thought folks did Atlantic proud at the Crawford County fair, but they really stole the show at Jamestown. Way to go!

Fallowfield United Methodist Church held a fellowship dinner after Sunday school on September 7. We had lasagna, salad, bread, and dessert. I love spending time with my church family. That’s what I love about our church: Bible teaching and fellowship.

Hank’s closed for the year on September 7, too. Bummer. I hate to see it close at the end of summer. I’d stop for a cone in January, wouldn’t you?

Kennard United Methodist Church is having a community breakfast at 8 a.m. on Saturday, September 13. This is always a yummy cooked breakfast. They are also hosting a lasagna dinner at 5 p.m. on Saturday, September 20. Hope you can make it.

Have a wonderful week. Blessings!
