1,667 Pies

Sorry I missed you last week. I was crazy busy at pie bakes. As I’ve written before, Fallowfield United Methodist Church is my home church. I am so thankful to be part of this annual project. This is our 59th year.

Volunteer bakers, cooks, and servers made and sold 1,667 pies at the Crawford County Fair. That works out to 8,335 pieces of homemade pie.

God pulled off a miracle last week. I’ve got to tell you, I was horribly discouraged on Monday morning because only four people came to help. We need around ten to get the work done for each shift. We have three pie bakes a day during fair week and bake between 90 and 120 pies per shift.

Three people from the 6 a.m. bake stayed until 1:30 p.m. to help me make the pies and one woman followed the nudge of the Holy Spirit and stopped by to help.

On Tuesday around 14 people came to help. People prayed and called their friends and we had more than enough help at pie bakes from Tuesday until Saturday.

To me, that’s God at work.

Last year we supported 83 different missions. We gave locally to Fallowfield Fire & Rescue, Family Services in Meadville, Habitat in Mercer, His Work His Way, Iris Theater, Life - See Pies page 18

Building Ministries in Cochranton, Fresh Grounds in Greenville, Pregnancy Center in Meadville, Cutting Edge Ministries, Salvation Armies in Crawford and Mercer County, Samaritans of Conneaut Lake, Stone United Methodist Church soup kitchen, and others.

We support missionaries in Brazil, India, Haiti, Congo, Philippines, Hungary, Ethiopia, Paraguay, Mexico, Tanzania, and other places around the world.

I’d like to brag about some of our Atlantic area award winners at the fair. J-RA Holsteins, owned and run by the Raney family of Adamsville, really stole the show. Their three-year-old cow, Becca, won Grand Champion of Holstein show and then Supreme Grand champion, meaning that she was the best dairy cow in the fair.

Becca just had her second calf in June. Way to go, Raneys.

Seven members of Adamsville’s Make, Bake, and Create 4-H group won ribbons for sewing projects and baked goods. These first year 4-Hers won a total of two first place ribbons, three second place ribbons, and four third place ribbons. They won in sewing, scrapbooking, knitting, and baking categories. I am so proud of these girls.

The fair is a big deal in Atlantic and I think Atlantic community members did our area proud.

Have a wonderful week. Blessings!
