New 4-H group in Adamsville

Welcome to another week!

I am excited to report that there is a new 4-H group in the area. Barb Saulsbery of Adamsville, Sharon Shrock of Hartstown, and Marie Schlosser of Conneaut Lake have started a new 4-H club in Adamsville. This club will offer a wide range of projects, including baking, sewing, photography, and woodworking.

They will not offer animal projects.

These leaders provide oodles of knowledge and experience in these areas. You have probably seen their quilts and baked goods at the Crawford County and Jamestown Fairs.

The first 4-H meeting will be Saturday, April 5, at Adamsville Presbyterian Church from 10 a.m. to noon. This will be an organizational meeting. If your children are interested, please come. Leaders will register children and the children can choose their projects.

Girls and boys who were eight years old by January 1, of this year can join. There is a $30 enrollment fee, but there are funds set aside to help families who may not have the means to pay.

Future meetings will be on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon.

I’ve always wondered what 4-H stands for. The 4-Hs are “Head, Heart, Hands, and Health.” According to HYPERLINK "http://www.4-h.org" www.4-h.org, this is what the 4-Hs symbolize: Head - Managing, Thinking; Heart - Relating, Caring; Hands - Giving, Working; Health - Being, Living. The 4-H mission is to empower young people to “…reach their full potential, working and learning in partnership with caring adults.”

I was in 4-H from first through fifth grade. My club, Fumble Fingers, exemplified these qualities. My 4-H leaders were very caring and tried to help us learn the skills they taught.

I tried sewing and cross-stitching. I wasn’t any good at sewing and I didn’t have the discipline to stick to cross-stitching.

Even though I wasn’t any good at sewing, 4-H was a good experience for me. It was my first chance to enter my work in competitions, including the 4-H Roundup and Crawford County Fair.

Encourage the children in your life to try 4-H. It is a good organization.

Pastor Dave Bell will lead Lenten worship services at Fallowfield United Methodist Church at 7 p.m. on April 2, 9, and 16. He is acting out a series of skits focusing on artisans whose wares played a role in Jesus’ crucifixion.

Calvary United Methodist Church of Greenville is hosting a Lenten Luncheon Wednesday, April 2. The Pic-a-longs will provide entertainment and Kennard United Methodist Women will host the luncheon. The speaker is the reverend Randy Ritchey of Oak Grove Church in Mercer.

Have a wonderful week. Blessings!
