David Schaef update: (12/05/23)

I spoke with David yesterday. He had just arrived at the Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital in Erie.

There are still a couple of issues to resolve, and David is optimistic that Encompass has the skills. We didn't speak much of medicine and health, most of the conversation was about our subscribers and the Community News newspaper.

I was much encouraged by the tone of his voice and the idea he was interested in talking about Community News. So, he’s at that, “I want to get back to work” stage of healing.

He talked about his subscribers and a letter he is composing for them. He talked about how to proceed with the newspaper when he gets home.

He said he hopes to be home in 2 weeks.

Thank You all for your Love and Prayers and Well Wishes.

The Conneaut School Board, by 7-1-1 tally at its Wednesday, April 12,voting meeting passed a motion to seek the dismissal of a Professional Employee and to inform that employee of the scheduling of a board hearing to consider the dismissal.

The action came following an executive session of the school board members, its lawyer, and superintendent.

The hearing is also subject to any rights the employee may have to elect grievance arbitration in following Public School Code which means the employee may decide not to have a hearing before the board and go to arbitration.

No details of the situation were discussed in public - the motion passed confirming action taken by the Schools Superintendent at a point previously.

As would be typical in such cases, details of the Superintendent’s action would not be discussed even in the executive session as the school board, if a hearing is held before them, must act as jury.

Voting to schedule the hearing were Don Ellis, Jr., Jamie Hornstein, Kathy Klink, Cheryl Krachkowski, Dot Luckock, Tim McQuiston, and David Schaef. John Burnham voted no. Board president Jody Sperry was absent from the meeting with Luckock conducting the meeting.
