Conneaut School directors approved a list of 147 students to graduate in the Class of 2016 when the directors met in voting session Wednesday evening at the Alice L. Schafer Annex.
The Class of 2016 graduated in commencement ceremony Friday, June 10, at Conneaut Area Senior High, the first class to attend the high school from grades 9 - 12.
The 147 student number flies in the face of those who opposed the merger of the three previous high schools of Conneaut Lake, Conneaut Valley and Linesville fearing a mega school.
The graduating class numbers have fallen each year since the merger took place, a fact of declining enrollment in the area, the school district able to continue to offer academic classes in place without huge cuts and financial issues that other school districts around are facing.
The district faces no staff layoffs and is looking to adopt a budget for the year that begins July 1, without a tax increase and that maintains its academic programs.
