David Schaef update: (12/05/23)

I spoke with David yesterday. He had just arrived at the Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital in Erie.

There are still a couple of issues to resolve, and David is optimistic that Encompass has the skills. We didn't speak much of medicine and health, most of the conversation was about our subscribers and the Community News newspaper.

I was much encouraged by the tone of his voice and the idea he was interested in talking about Community News. So, he’s at that, “I want to get back to work” stage of healing.

He talked about his subscribers and a letter he is composing for them. He talked about how to proceed with the newspaper when he gets home.

He said he hopes to be home in 2 weeks.

Thank You all for your Love and Prayers and Well Wishes.

As work begins on the Conneaut School District budget for the year to begin July 1, the Conneaut School District Board of Education heard a plea to hire a second psychologist to work in the district and, in fact, hire that person in the next month to be sure that all required paper work and processes are completed for this school year.

Speaking at the Board of Education work session held Wednesday evening at the Alice L. Schafer Annex, and also having addressed the need at a finance committee meeting held late last month, Conneaut Special Education Supervisor Susy Walters told of the increasing work load of the current psychologist and the struggle to keep up and meet deadlines.

Walters pointed out school districts around Conneaut who have two psychologists working.

She noted the district has 402 students with an Individual Educational Plan, 15 students under a 504 plan, 14 early intervention students coming in; that there were 31 students tested this year with 28 determined to need various services, 20 students who yet need tested, that in past years some 320 - 350 students were worked with but those numbers have increased.
