David Schaef update: (12/05/23)

I spoke with David yesterday. He had just arrived at the Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital in Erie.

There are still a couple of issues to resolve, and David is optimistic that Encompass has the skills. We didn't speak much of medicine and health, most of the conversation was about our subscribers and the Community News newspaper.

I was much encouraged by the tone of his voice and the idea he was interested in talking about Community News. So, he’s at that, “I want to get back to work” stage of healing.

He talked about his subscribers and a letter he is composing for them. He talked about how to proceed with the newspaper when he gets home.

He said he hopes to be home in 2 weeks.

The Community News, as is its tradition, will not be published the week between Christmas and New Year’s - the Dec. 29, issue. to allow for holiday time for all.

 

Jody Sperry elected school board president

Jody Sperry was elected Conneaut School Board president when school directors met in re-organizational meeting Wednesday evening at the Alice Schafer Annex.

She replaces Dr. Walter Thomas who had been president the past two years.

Thomas had elected to step down as president.

Sperry was the only nominee and returns her to the board leadership role - a position she held before. She had been president for 7 years but declined election in December 2012, at which time Dr. Thomas was elected president. He served in that position for 2 years.

Greenwood leaders updated on KOW

Greenwood Township Supervisors held their December public meeting with Supervisors Richard Muir, Cecil Stevenson and Diane Adsit in attendance. Secretary Donna Kean led the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag and also took the minutes. There were no citizens present.

The November meeting minutes and the budget meeting minutes were all approved.

For Public Comment, Insurance Agent Dan Petruso stood to talk to the Board about the GT insurance policies.

The current company is still Selective Insurance, and Petruso reviewed the list of GT properties with values, along with inflation figures and replacement costs.
