David Schaef update: (12/05/23)

I spoke with David yesterday. He had just arrived at the Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital in Erie.

There are still a couple of issues to resolve, and David is optimistic that Encompass has the skills. We didn't speak much of medicine and health, most of the conversation was about our subscribers and the Community News newspaper.

I was much encouraged by the tone of his voice and the idea he was interested in talking about Community News. So, he’s at that, “I want to get back to work” stage of healing.

He talked about his subscribers and a letter he is composing for them. He talked about how to proceed with the newspaper when he gets home.

He said he hopes to be home in 2 weeks.

Thank You all for your Love and Prayers and Well Wishes.

Candy store opening, doctor’s offiffi ce closing
Written by David Schaef

It’s apparently good news and bad news for the Linesville area as citizens learned at the Linesville borough Council meeting Tuesday evening that a candy store would open in the borough once renovation and paper work is done with the sale of the former police station on East Erie Street.

The bad news is in a petition found on page 21 of this paper and also in editions of the daily newspaper in the area and the Area Shopper that the Pymatuning Family Practice office of Dr. Lisa Watson, located at 109 North Chestnut Street, will be closing on August 31, when, according to a source UPMC declined to renew the doctor’s contract, decided to close the office as of August 31, with little notice to the doctor’s patients.

As of Friday, August 12, the source indicated the doctor’s patients have not received notification of the closing, what may happen to their records, how to obtain their record to send to another doctor, and what options they may have.

UPMC hospitals include Hamot in Erie and Greenville’s hospital, with UPMC having other hospitals south of this area including the Pittsburgh area.

Dr. Watson’s patients, by the petition, are urged to sign the form, mail to the address listed as soon as possible, that petition asking UPMC to reconsider their action in light, the source said, of the hundreds of patients that Dr. Watson serves.

The candy store will be a part of Stefanelli’s Candies, who already have stores in Erie and Greenville.

Conneaut Township residents claim no relief by state police, others
Written by Roseanne Staab

The Conneaut Township Board of Supervisors held the August public meeting with George Greig leading the salute to the American flag. Timothy Greig and Josh Fusco were in attendance and Secretary Telce Varee took the minutes. There were 8 citizens present.

The July meeting minutes were accepted and all the bills were paid.

For Public Comment, residents from the Bertram Road area stood to take the floor, asking the Board whether Sewage Enforcement Officer Mike Rinkovich had been out to investigate a trailer house on Bertram Road.

These neighbors allege that drug activity, loud parties, ATV’s, odd behavior and robberies are taking place in this vicinity. The trailer has no electric, no running water and no sewage.

The neighbors present at the meeting sought help from the Conneaut Supervisory Board at the July meeting; the Board had informed them that they are not law enforcement, and that the PA State Police should be called.

The residents stated that the PA State Police told them to come to the Supervisors for help. The residents stated again at this meeting that the PA State Police have been very unhelpful and they are in fear of their lives.
