David Schaef update: (12/05/23)

I spoke with David yesterday. He had just arrived at the Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital in Erie.

There are still a couple of issues to resolve, and David is optimistic that Encompass has the skills. We didn't speak much of medicine and health, most of the conversation was about our subscribers and the Community News newspaper.

I was much encouraged by the tone of his voice and the idea he was interested in talking about Community News. So, he’s at that, “I want to get back to work” stage of healing.

He talked about his subscribers and a letter he is composing for them. He talked about how to proceed with the newspaper when he gets home.

He said he hopes to be home in 2 weeks.

Thank You all for your Love and Prayers and Well Wishes.

Conneaut Lake Borough Council held their June work session with Council members Bill Eldridge, Mayor Timothy Kaider, Penny Monahan and Dick Holabaugh in attendance. Councilmen Billy Paris, Mike Krepps, John Chuey and Dwight Stallard were absent. There was one citizen present. An agenda was provided.

Chairman Dick Holabaugh began a discussion regarding the outflow of Conneaut Lake and the recent “rain event” at the end of May. Over 5 inches of rain fell in the Conneaut Lake area, causing flooding of culverts, pipes, basements and sewer lines. The outflow of Conneaut Lake was actually flowing backward into the lake and the local sewer treatment plant was flooded.

The outflow area is in need of cleaning, but the Borough does not have any jurisdiction to commence clean up work.

The PA Game Commission was contacted by Streets Manager Jim Donnachie since the June public Council meeting, and permission was given to clean out the outflow area. A track hoe will be needed to work in this area.

Councilman Bill Eldridge asked some questions and would like the cleaning process to begin as soon as possible.
