Despite over two dozen people in attendance and a 4 page petition opposing increasing real estate millage by 3 mills, Linesville Borough Council, on a 6-1 vote, determined to raise real estate taxes 3 mills in the 2015 budget - all to be used to pay for the tear down of the Pachuk Building on the borough’s main street.
The 3 mills amounts to about a 25% increase and comes on the heels of a 2.2 mill increase for the 2013 budget - a 5.2 mill increase in three years, that a 50% increase from the 10 mills in 2012.
The vote to increase the 3 mills of taxes came after 2-1/2 hours of debate from those in attendance and council with Rodney Kovisto making the motion for the increase, seconded by Holly Miller and passed 6-1 with Kovisto, Miller, Kevin McGrath, Laura Deal, Mike Heaney, and Tom Deighton voting yes and Randy Uplinger voting no.
The 3 mill increase is expected to bring in about $30,000 a year as one mill is said to bring in about $10,000.
