Linesville real estate taxpayers face a 3 mill real estate tax increase in the 2015 year based on action taken by a 5-1 majority when council reconvened their Dec. 9 meeting on Dec. 11. A final vote must be taken at a meeting to be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 30, as council puts final touches on the 2015 budget.
The action on December 11, had council vote to establish a line item in the budget of $120,000 to be used for property maintenance - and only property maintenance issues - and setting the tax millage at 15.2, among the highest in the county.
By contrast, nearby Cochranton has a millage rate of 14:25.
It would be the second increase in Linesville millage in the past two years as the 2013 millage was raised 2.2 mills by 4-3 vote in December 2012.
Adding the property maintenance item in the budget of the $120,000, had council add $30,000 in income from the increased taxes as payment on a loan council will have to take out to began pay back on that loan.
