David Schaef update: (12/05/23)

I spoke with David yesterday. He had just arrived at the Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital in Erie.

There are still a couple of issues to resolve, and David is optimistic that Encompass has the skills. We didn't speak much of medicine and health, most of the conversation was about our subscribers and the Community News newspaper.

I was much encouraged by the tone of his voice and the idea he was interested in talking about Community News. So, he’s at that, “I want to get back to work” stage of healing.

He talked about his subscribers and a letter he is composing for them. He talked about how to proceed with the newspaper when he gets home.

He said he hopes to be home in 2 weeks.

Thank You all for your Love and Prayers and Well Wishes.

Crawford County Court of Common Pleas Judge Anthony Vardaro ruled on Thursday on a consent decree that ousts the current 7-member Board of Trustees at Conneaut Lake Park and will replace it with a board that will be run by the Economic Progress Alliance.

The decree was between state Attorney General Kathleen Kane and the Trustees of Conneaut Lake Park.

The current Trustees, in the agreement, do not admit to any wrongdoing or negligence but the agreement seeks a $200,000 payment from the Trustees errors and omissions insurance policy that covers companies and individuals from claims made by others for negligent actions.

The court action followed action by Kane who had petitioned the county court last October to dismiss the current board citing Trustees not taking advantage of business opportunities, pushed business away from Hotel Conneaut and noted a lack of insurance coverage [when Dreamland Ballroom was destroyed by an arsonist’s fire Feb. 1, 2008, and the Beach Club burned of undetermined causes Aug. 1, 2013].
