David Schaef update: (12/05/23)

I spoke with David yesterday. He had just arrived at the Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital in Erie.

There are still a couple of issues to resolve, and David is optimistic that Encompass has the skills. We didn't speak much of medicine and health, most of the conversation was about our subscribers and the Community News newspaper.

I was much encouraged by the tone of his voice and the idea he was interested in talking about Community News. So, he’s at that, “I want to get back to work” stage of healing.

He talked about his subscribers and a letter he is composing for them. He talked about how to proceed with the newspaper when he gets home.

He said he hopes to be home in 2 weeks.

Thank You all for your Love and Prayers and Well Wishes.

Lake junior high football lacks coaches, team may have to join with Valley Middle
Written by DAVID SCHAEF

A lack of football coaches for the Conneaut Lake Middle School team may cause the Conneaut School District to slash the program at the school and send interested players to join the Conneaut Valley Middle School team.

Despite postings by the district and efforts by high school football coach Pat Gould to recruit coaches, no one has stepped forward to run the Lake School’s program.

The lack of coaches was discussed by the Conneaut Board of Education at a work session held Wednesday evening at the Alice L. Schafer Annex in Linesville with discussion being the district would advertise once again. If no one applies the decision will be to bus all interested students from Lake Middle School to Conneaut Valley to play.

Last year’s Lake Middle School football coaches have opted not to return to the program which is estimated at having between 20 - 25 players on the 7th/8th grade squad.
