David Schaef update: (12/05/23)

I spoke with David yesterday. He had just arrived at the Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital in Erie.

There are still a couple of issues to resolve, and David is optimistic that Encompass has the skills. We didn't speak much of medicine and health, most of the conversation was about our subscribers and the Community News newspaper.

I was much encouraged by the tone of his voice and the idea he was interested in talking about Community News. So, he’s at that, “I want to get back to work” stage of healing.

He talked about his subscribers and a letter he is composing for them. He talked about how to proceed with the newspaper when he gets home.

He said he hopes to be home in 2 weeks.

New police cruiser is on the horizon

The purchase of a new police cruiser was discussed during the May meeting of the Conneaut Lake Regional Police Commission.

Police Chief, Todd Pfeifer, who was not in attendance due to a medical leave, requested that an unmarked car be considered for purchase. The topic led to a discussion by members of the Commission including, Lyle Hoovler, Bonnie Smith, Kevin VanHonk, Tim Kaider, Richard Holabaugh and Rose Mumau.

Holabaugh stated that he thought there would be repercussions if they ended up with an unmarked cruiser since they currently have complaints about a heavy police presence.

North Shenango supervisors told that auto body repair shop licensing proceeding

North Shenango Township supervisors held their May public meeting with Supervisors Dan Dickey, Eloise Settlemyre and Bill Emerick in attendance. Secretary Denise Gray took the minutes and there were 4 citizens present. All stood to salute the American Flag.

There was no Public Comment.

Under the Code Report, Secretary Gray brought up the local Anderson property, which has been in violation of junk and property maintenance. She said that the neighbors there are complaining about it and that the DEP was notified and had been out to investigate. HAZMAT authorities were not there.

CL Park tax sale proposal is a Sadsbury Township discussion topic

Sadsbury Township supervisors held their May public meeting with Supervisors Kevin VanHonk, Lyle Hoovler and Bonnie Smith in attendance. Secretary Rose Mumau took the minutes and there were 4 citizens present.

For Public Comment, a man stood to talk about Bill’s Midway Marina Boat Storage on Rt. 18. There is a development plan for two additional boat storage buildings to be erected. Clay Fales, Surveyor and Engineer, is doing work on these plans.

There is a staging area located in the vicinity for boats, and the business also launches them in the water for their customers.
