David Schaef update: (12/05/23)

I spoke with David yesterday. He had just arrived at the Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital in Erie.

There are still a couple of issues to resolve, and David is optimistic that Encompass has the skills. We didn't speak much of medicine and health, most of the conversation was about our subscribers and the Community News newspaper.

I was much encouraged by the tone of his voice and the idea he was interested in talking about Community News. So, he’s at that, “I want to get back to work” stage of healing.

He talked about his subscribers and a letter he is composing for them. He talked about how to proceed with the newspaper when he gets home.

He said he hopes to be home in 2 weeks.

Thank You all for your Love and Prayers and Well Wishes.

AN ERA ENDS - Bob and Ruth Samuels have sold their store, Samuels Market Place, Conneautville, effective Monday, Feb. 17, ending the Samuels store ownership dating back to 1949 when Bob’s dad started. Bob joined his dad in 1959 and purchased the store in 1968 at the current hardware store location on Main Street. He built at the current location in 1971, expanding from 3,000 sq. ft. to 6,000, adding on twice to its current size of 10,000 sq. ft. The town was very good to the Samuels family, Bob noted, from his Mom and Dad to his current family, allowing us to grow. We tried to support the community activities. Samuels has been a Little League sponsor for 50-plus years. Retirement plans are to “do what I want, when I want,” Bob said. Travel plans are included. In photo above is the Samuels family, from left, son Rick, Ruth and Bob, and son Mike. Both sons will continue to work under the new ownership.
