Stone Memorial Library

CONNEAUTVILLE - Stone Memorial Library is where all are welcome to visit, read, study, participate, and chat! We provide access to books, audiobooks, DVDs, access to computers and the internet as well as WiFi, board games and puzzles, magazines, and more. We also have quite a few programs that are open and FREE for all those willing to participate.

We recently added some new technology to our collection! Our newest item type available to borrow is a hot spot, which uses the T-Mobile cell network to create a WiFi signal that you can use to access the internet wherever you are. Please contact the library for more details.

Bring the kids every Tuesday morning for Story Time. Come in around 10 am for a bit of socializing, playtime, crafting, interactive storytelling, and snacks, all put together by Julie Klingler. Each week we explore early learning and literacy with a new theme.

Our weekly Stitch Club meets weekly on Thursdays at 10 am. All skill levels and types of stitchery are welcome to join, from crocheting and knitting to embroidery.

Saturday Crafternoons are here! On February 22, we offered a Woodburning workshop from 2 to 3:30 pm.

Thank you to all of those who continue to show support for our library. Without such strong support from our community, we would be unable to properly serve our community. The Community News can now be purchased at Stone Memorial Library. Stop by during library hours.

If there is a book or a program that you would like to see in our library, be sure to let our director Lauren Lowery know!

The Stone Memorial Library is located at 1101 Main St. Conneautville PA, 16406. We are open Monday & Friday, 1 – 6pm, Tuesday & Thursday, 9am – 6pm, and Saturdays 9am – 4pm. Feel free to also contact us via phone / fax at 814-587-2142.

Springboro Library happenings

- A Gold Level Library -

SPRINGBORO - Stop by and let us guide you to the latest and greatest in new fiction and non-fiction books at the front of the library. We have new books coming every few weeks! We just got “The Janes”, by Louisa Luna and “Too Close to Home” by Andrew Grant. There are also new fiction books from Kristy Cambron, Stephen King and Karma Brown. New non-fiction titles include: “Sam Houston and the Alamo Avengers” by Brian Kilmeade and “Gutsy Women”, a book by Hillary Rodham Clinton and Chelsea Clinton. We also have new books for kids of all ages as well as new movies and magazines.

We are currently having a “Best Seller Sale”. Hard back books and paperbacks are on sale for a small donation. Come in and find your favorites to keep.

You can now check out internet access from your library! All you need is a library card and you can get internet for free. Our new “Hotspots” operate through T-mobile and work in conjunction with your cell phone. It’s as easy as going into the settings of your phone to access. The hotspot devices can be checked out like a book for two weeks. Just another great service provided for our community. Take advantage as soon as possible. Some libraries have a two week waiting list!

Did you know that 5 million more people attend just library programs than go to MLB games, NFL games and NBA games? That means over 100 million people attend library programs. That’s pretty good for a non-profit. Since 2012, the number of programs attended per capita has risen by 16.9%. These programs are mostly free. (which helps to explain why so many attend) Here at “SPL” we continue to inquire about what is most important to our patrons and our community so that we are able to imitate programs at larger libraries and implement new services.

We are no longer accepting applications for Library Director. The candidates for our new Library Director are currently being interviewed. We thank all applicants for their time. The resumes were very impressive! We hope to welcome a new Director before Spring.

Our Children’s Corner continues to be a lively hub for neighborhood kids. We just took down all the Valentine hearts our kids made. And now we are making shamrocks. All of them will be saved for the kids to pick up and take home after each holiday.

The Children’s Corner has a great selection of classic and new books. And it also has building blocks, magnatiles, coloring books, a chalk board, puzzles and audio-books. We know that not all kids learn best through print books. We offer a great selection of learning materials to check out or sit and enjoy in the comfort of our quiet space.

And remember to bring the kids every Saturday morning for pre-school story time at 10 am and “Kids Create” at 11 am. These two hours are designed to help kids with all the activities they participate in at school. Small children can learn how to safely use scissors and glue and even to tell time.

Our craft workshops meet on the third Thursday of every month. Our next workshop will be for Easter; we are planning a string art workshop. Keep up with our craft nights on facebook or on our website.

Our kids decorated the windows with hand made hearts for Valentine’s Day. We celebrated more than Valentines Day here at “SPL”. This month our little library has displays for Black History month and Abraham Lincoln’s birthday as well. Going online to look at this kind of history is not the same as checking out the huge variety of non-fiction and fiction books on these important topics. Stop by and let us guide you to the latest and greatest.

Other window displays include a winter display in our historic sleigh window and a window devoted to truth vs. fiction books on the same topics. All of the books in our displays are available for checkout.

Public Libraries are playing an important role in the 2020 census. More than 6,000 library locations conducted Census Bureau outreach activities during the last census in 2010. This year, we expect even more. The aim is for libraries to be informed and represented in these activities.

We are giving our patrons more in 2020 than ever before. Did you know the library has audio books, music and e-books? Check out our website. We have way more than just books!!

Public libraries are a great asset to any community. We are continually upgrading our system and adding more services for our patrons. In addition to a first rate pre-school storytime and popular craft workshops we have had senior gadget classes, community chat evenings, lego club, book club and more. Most recently, we are adding hotspots. Hotspots operate on the T-mobile network and grant internet access to the patron. The library does not track your usage. But they can turn off usage if not returned on time. The new hotspots are available to check out for 14 days at all Crawford County libraries. Check out our website or Facebook page to see more.

Are you interested in learning a new career such as accounting? Or do you want to earn college credits? Check out our website’s Universal classes. All you need is a library card. All classes are free! There are also hobbies and special interest courses, such as geneaology and gardening on the Universal Class website.

American adult reads 4 books per year? According to the American Library Association, 65% of American adults read a print book last year. And 20% of American adults listened to an audio book. Either way, we have you covered!

Remember, it is free to get a library card for kids and adults. There are many benefits. Take advantage of all your library has to offer. We aim to provide the most current educational materials as well as entertainment media and crafts for our community.

We have collection #4 of the rotating Playaways in. If you have never tried “playaways”, they are a nice alternative to books . Just plug in your head phones and settle in somewhere comfortable to listen. They are for all ages and include fiction and non-fiction.

Library hours are: Monday through Thursday, 12 pm. - 7:30 pm, Fridays, 12 pm - 4 pm and Saturday 9 am - 4 pm.

For more information on any events or activities, please call the library at 814-587-3901 or visit us on Facebook or our website www.ccfls.org/springboro.
